Ruby 1/30

Nice AMPS. Looks like Ruby likes the .5 dose. Low preshots, surfing blues, and giving you enough at the end of each curve to be able to shoot each cycle. Great job!

I'm thinking that she responds to this like she does everything. You try to get her to do something and she ignores you.
Later she'll do it, but only when it might look like it was her idea in the first place.

I know how you feel. I also wish I could get a mid am cycle # but unfortunately I work too far away to even think about going home to check. All my mids are pm cycles (which seriously messes with my sleep) and weekends. Where's that Cat Nanny when you need 'em? ;-)

My husband works at home but there is no way Ru will let him test her. But he's there so I can have him keep an eye on her and keep me filled in if something seems wonky.

After two days of curves this weekend, she's probably thrilled to be rid of me!

Well, she is a cat!

Anything like this?

Looks like she's playing along tonight. Nice drop in 4 hours. Looks good!

Carl

That's from +4 to +5? Yes, I think that's okay, but would stay up to see if +6 goes lower, if possible. I can be on if you need another set of eyes.

Carl

I think I can handle it. If she goes lower, should I give her a bit of gravy?

I've got Gravy Lover's food, lots of strips, glucose spray...the works.

I would hold off on the gravy unless you see a number in the 50 range. That is considered the "low end" of normal. Great that you are prepared though! I would wait until +6 to test, but sooner if she starts acting weird, like howling or drunk looking. I think she'll be fine though, but I am online so just holler! The first defense is just to give a spoonful of low carb, test in 15 minutes, then break out the gravy if the number is lower. But only a spoonful at a time. If hypos last a while (which doesn't happen all too often with PZI/Prozinc, keeping them somewhat hungry is helpful, in case you have to continue to feed. That seems to happen more with lantus from the "hypos" I've watched as they happen. Lisa (and Cassie) had one that lasted a few hours the other night, but that was the first time I've watched a PZI kitty take more than an hour before they started climbing.

We had an episode a few weeks back when she decided to dive into the 40s and 50s around midnight. Sue was online and walked me thru it.
It happened the day after she had been at the vet and hit some record high numbers and the vet upped her dosage. At the time I was using a Relion Micro.
If I had the AlphaTrak then I wouldn't have been quite as freaked out because she would have been a bit higher.

+6 is in 30 minutes so I'll test her then. She did eat a couple of bites that were left over from her dinner so that might be enough to level her out.

Dang, I keep forgetting (even though it's in RED font in your sig) that you are using the AT meter!

What have you seen as far as the AT vs. the Relion in terms of difference?
Carl

I tested the side by side for a couple of days. When the numbers are in the high 200s on the Alpha, the Relion can come in as much as 70 points lower. When the Alpha is in the mid 100s, the difference narrows to about 30 to 40 points. The curves themselves are almost identical though, the Alpha just comes in higher. Our vet uses the Alpha, so I wanted to go with that one.

OK, if the Alpha is higher, even at the low end, then instead of getting antsy on a 50, you might start to react to a number of 70 or lower. If you see a 50, go with a spoonful of gravy, maybe on top of a small portion of the normal food, or just a spoonful of the gravy food if you don't want to open two cans.

Carl

Yep, sometimes your eyes are a better tool than the meter.
Carl

Ok, at +6 she's at 103, running around and acting like a goof (not out of her normal goofiness). I think she's good to go.

I think you're right. Great cycle so far, go RUBY!

Thanks so much for hanging out. The people on FDMB have really helped me thru all the nonsense we've been dealing with for the last month. It really means a lot.

You're very welcome! I know the feeling, and they helped me out a lot too way back when (seems like forever ago, but it was only May of last year when Bob was dx'd).

Have a good night
Carl
