Round Auto Feeders: PetSafe or Qpet?

I was wondering who might have experience with these feeders. I feel like most people probably are using the PetSafe. I think both of these have a digital timer. Does this make it easier to have two feeders pop open at the same time? I have 2 cats and if I use two feeders, each cat gets a meal. If they are staggered, the piggy civvie MIGHT get both! I've been using two compartment PetSafe feeders and with the analog dial-style time setting, it's hard to have both feeders open simultaneously. We're going out of town and I'd like to avoid separating the cats for the whole time.

Any tips on how well these feeders have worked would be great!

Pet Safe I'm considering

Q pet I'm considering

Both feeders have their share of poor and good reviews. I can never tell whether a terrible review is worth trusting!

I haven't heard of the Q. I have the PetSafe5 and really like it. The timing is very flexible. You could program it any way you want - from am to pm or 15 minutes apart. You program by actual time (5:45am for example) not the time since last fed. And it's the only one my cats couldn't break into.

I have 2 PetSafe 5 compartment feeders. They're easy to use, quiet except for a brief little whirr as the bowl rotates, and pretty much cat-proof. I've heard that some cats can push at the bowl to force it to rotate to the next compartment.

Well, everyone certainly seems to like the PetSafe. When looking on amazon, there are glowing reviews and horrible ones! Isn't that always the case. . .maybe some people don't like anything! The QPet is interesting, but there's not much info online and I can't find a manufacturer website.

One thing with the Petsafe that I learned form Libby- make sure to seat the turn-table down snug. And you can advance it by pushing the button to make sure it is on there.

Improper turning results if you just set it on top and the pets don't get fed.

I have had the PetSafe and I currently use Q-pet--my problem with the PetSafe was that Bandit figured out how to rotate the tray over with his paw and get his food earlier. When I decided to outsmart him by putting the food in the next compartment over and setting it to go off twice, he somehow broke the tab that kept the lid down and the feeder was destroyed.

So then I bought the Q-pet. I've had two for about 5 years now, and other than the lid that covers the 4th tray snapping off one of them last year (which didn't matter since I only ever use compartment 1 or 2 anyway), they've worked great. Very sturdy, and Bandit was not able to destroy it like the Petsafe and Lentek I had before them. They were very easy to sync up--if you turn them both on at the same time they will go off at exactly the same time. I would also recommend feeding each cat in a different spot (I fed every meal for mine at opposite ends of the kitchen), so that it's harder for one cat to steal the other's food if they finish first.

The one issue with it is that they program like a VCR from the 80s--I never had a problem with setting it but my boyfriend has complained that they're too hard to program. He also doesn't read instruction manuals, so that could have been his problem. It's also a bit louder than the PetSafe, but not crazy loud or anything. It took about a week for Gabby to get used to the noise before she'd eat out of it, but she was a picky eater. Bandit the garbage disposal ate out of it right away.

Thanks, this is great info! I ended up getting 2 Petsafes because I found them locally. It was 2 days before my trip and I was feeling reckless  We will have to see if Simon or Molly figures out how to turn the tray. I can see that aspect (I was able to slide the tray). We will see what IQs we have here!

Harley is using the PetSafe 5 - and I love it. Fill up 3 during the day and I don't have to worry about it. Down side is, when he is sleeping with me (usually on top of me), he runs like hell when he hears it - I end up with claw marks down my side. LOL.

I loved the Petsafe one; Shadoe had no problems with it.
