Well hopefully some good data will come from this. Rooh seems to always want to go green only at night... whas up with that!?!

I made a judgement call and gave the full 3.5u at PM shot even though I was faced with a low PS that I am not used to and he on a down swing (lesson learned). Then I got a little chicken as he continued dropping afterwards and I crammed the carbs down him.. :nailbiting:

The gravy and karo seemed to have very little effect on him, or was I just not aggressive enough with it?
My karo was the light kind so I will pick up some full force karo tomorrow.

Either he isn't very carb sensitive or maybe it stopped him from really crashing hard.. What do you think?

How long does it typically take high carb food to register in the blood check? I think i recall reading about 30 mins?

My SS is updated if anyone wants to take a look.

He has been at 3.5u for 10 cycles now except for the lowered dose on 1/22. Any thoughts on a decrease, increase or keep on going?

Here is a recap of tonight -

TIME / HRSPS / (BG) / FOOD
8:30 PM +10.75 (156) .25 can FF beef
9:30 PM +11.75 (119) (3.5units) .5 can FF Beef
9:45 PM +.25 (100) 1/2 tsp gravy natural balance platefuls
10:00 PM +.5 (119)
10:20 PM +.83 (80)
10:30 PM +1 (60) 1 drop of karo light
10:40 PM +1.16 (60) 4 drops karo light + FF beef
10:50 PM +1.33 (60) .25 can sheba (not sure how many carbs)
11:00 PM +1.5 (64)
11:20 PM +1.83 (67)
11:50 PM +2.33 (48) 1 tbs simply nourish tuna & pot
12:00 AM +2.5 (42) 1 tbs simply nourish tuna & pot
12:10 AM +2.66 (52)
12:40 AM +3.16 (70)
1:10 AM +3.66 (73)
2:00 AM +4.5 (74) 2:30 asking for more food. .25 can FF+ 1 tsp Simply nourish

That drop under 50 has earned Rooh a reduction to 3.25 units. Nice work shooting (I hope the lesson learned was that you can manage those numbers not that you shouldn't have shot - it was a good shoot :)) and good work managing the numbers too what a lovely string of green healing numbers - beautiful cycle, even though he's keeping you up all night :D

You can see the HC doing its work nicely, at your 11.50PM and 12AM it would have taken 20-30 mins to kick in and there it is bumping him safely back up without sending him sky high - just what you want, surfing the greens :D I don't think there was any need for you to be more aggressive earlier in the cycle, when a kitty wants a reduction they want a reduction - congratulations

Hi Mel,

I'm not a dosing expert, but judging by tonight's numbers, I'd say Rooh has earned a reducie. He dropped below 50. I'd shoot 3.25 tomorrow morning. Congrats, and good job! You know, it takes about 20-30 minutes for food to affect the BG, so you don't have to test more often than that - give those poor ears a break! ;) I usually test every 30 when Cinco is low, but if you're nervous and feel Rooh is still dropping, 20 minutes is fine. Do you have any Neosporin with pain relief to rub on his ears? It really helps when you've been testing a lot.

Am I correct in thinking you did not feed at +2.66, +3.16 + +3.66? If so, you are probably safe to go to bed now. Maybe get one last test before you go. BTW, I use the light karo and it works just fine.

Thank you Vyktors Mum and Tricia.
Correct, i did not feed at +2.66, +3.16 + +3.66. I did leave food down at +4.5 but he is not eating it. Thanks for the info on ear testing. I know poor baby I really abused his ears tonight.

Doesn't it look like the Karo (5 drops at +1) never increased him since he shot down 18 points an hour and half afterwards?

3.25 tomorrow it is! Time for me to get some sleep.

It can take 20 - 30 min. for any form of HC to get into the blood stream. It also varies depending on how fast your cat's metabolism is, how carb sensitive Rooh is, and how much momentum there is behind the dropping numbers. Congrats on the dose reduction!

Also, keep in mind that there is meter variance of about 20% that is a factor.

My kitty, Simon, has been doing the dropping low at night, too. He has been diabetic for 4 years and this seems to be a newer trend for him. Doesn't give us much sleep, does it? I always set up a few little snack meals in my automatic feeder to go off every few hours. When he is going low, I put HC food in the feeder so I can feel pretty good about getting a few hours sleep without worrying about him. Of course, when he is going very low, I stay up until he is rising, not dropping. Sometimes, the MC food (usually I use FF medleys) works well and without the huge bounce after HC. You are doing a great job of handling the low numbers. Keep it up!

I agree on the reduction - i might've taken another 0.5u reduction since he's still over 3.0u, but since you went with 3.25u, why don't you just stick with it for now. just be aware that you may see another one before long, but that's ok.

He had a minimum of 8 hrs in normal numbers (under 120). That's FANTASTIC! For today, since he bounced this morning, I'd probably give him a break and not test him til late in this am cycle, maybe a +10 or so, just so you have something to compare to at pmps and know if he's flat or coming down fast, for example.

Great to see Rooh has only bounce into the pink (so far - anti jinx) instead of into the black as he has done with a stall or a skipped shot - excellent data indeed!
