Hi all. Been away from the boards for a while, life has been a bit dramatic lately. I returned from holiday a week ago, and while I was gone my friend who moved in to look after the furry gang changed some of the food to get my Lymphoma kitty to eat (she knows what to look out for - no gravy, no dry etc) All the cats loved it and it seems to have done the diabetics a world of good too. Frankie has decreased his dose from 1.75 to 1 unit and Rom has gone down from 0.75 to 0.25. My question is about Rom. He is still throwing me some alarmingly low numbers on the 0.25 dose. One more and he gets a reduction. The question is what and how do I reduce? I am using the BD Demi syringes with half unit markings and he is only getting a hairs width off the zero line as it is. I'm not comfortable withdrawing insulin completely yet either, so I'm kind of stuck. Help!!!

It's great to hear Frankie and Rom are doing so well and the new food is working for everyone. I hope you had a good holiday.

I measured a drop by holding the plunger of the syringe in all the way while I inserted it into the pen. Then I let go of the plunger while it was still in the pen so it would suck up a drop. It doesn't seem like there is any insulin in the syringe, but I tested it and there was a drop. I hope that makes sense.

@carfurby. I just practiced on an old syringe and water. There was a drop came out but wouldn't drop off unless I shook the syringe. I then used a drop on Rom. I'm hoping that the act of withdrawing the syringe would make the drop go in. I presume you need to keep the pressure on the syringe the whole time even while withdrawing as otherwise the drop will suck back in?

Rom is looking good. :DThe next dose below 0.25 is 0.1 units. The BDs were so variable I needed calipers to measure that dose. I found some BDs had almost 1/3 of a unit below the zero line. Neko's last dose was between the zero line and bottom of the barrel.
