After Rocky's asymptomatic hypo on Thursday night I decided to stop insulin for 2 cycles to see if he still needs it.
On Saturday AM (today) his PS BG was 8.9 so I gave him his latest working dose of 0.25 u which, so far has been a safe dose on these numbers.
I suspect that on Thursday night the fact that he did not have much food at shooting time and it was about six hours since his last meal might have caused his low BG.
Another possibility is that there was more insulin in the syringe that I anticipated and those two combined caused him to hypo. He did have his dinner about an hour after the shot but the portion was smaller than usual as I'm trying to slim him down and also I took into account that beef can rise BG more then white meat. I also thought that his insulin (Hypurin PZI) is slow to start working. The reason for me checking his BG at +3 was that I wanted to see if beef would make his BG higher then anticipated and I certainly did not expect low number!
I'm struggling with filling the syringes to obtain doses between the little lines. Sometimes I'm just not sure if the dose is 0.25 or small 0.25 or a fat one!
I really don't understand how microdosing can be done with these syringes, I have to try to get a grip on that.
I will try smaller doses on numbers below 7.5.
In the meantime it looks like Rocky still needs insulin and his hypo might have been caused by few factors combined, nothing is really cleat cut here.
Would be much obliged for any input as other members' experiences and opinions could shed some more light on this.
Looking forward to hearing what you think and many thanks for taking your time to assist me with that.
Sending hugs and healing vines to everybody, let's keep our kitties healthy.
