So its been a week since we started Rockys insulin. (Hes on 1 u of lantus once a day)He seemed to be doing better more alert moving around simi grooming himself purring again talking to us etc. Well yesterday he had 3 accidents in the house. This morning he was in the kitchen just laying in his pee. I cleaned him and the floor up. He now hanging out in my room. Hes also still having very soft poop hes on medicine for it.

Are you sure there's no uti? How low is his bg level getting? Does he have leg weakness?

I don't think its uti he had a urine test last Monday. When he was diagnosed. His levels seem to be good he has had leg weakness one of the reasons we took him in . But the leg weakness seem to be improving

i checked his BG at 3 when i got home its at 262. He seems pretty tired but alert and answers when you call to him. he's not due for his shot till 6 .

He could have a UTI? Can you possibly catch some of his urine and bring it in to your vet to test ?
UTIs can be pretty brutal.... I used to get them and it is a very urgent awful feeling.
Has he had blood work? Kidneys??
A full CBC with a T4 might be a good place to start to see what is going on with your baby...

He had a complete blood and urine test june 26 , thats how we discovered he had diabetes . The vet said it was pretty advanced . He just finished taking 1/2 ml twice a day of Metronidazole for diarrhea . I don't know if it really helped. His stool still soft. How would i go about catching his urine without it being contaminated. At the vet he said they stuck a thin tube in his belly (don't remember the term or name ) they pull it straight from the bladder.

He hasn't had any other accidents today. just the 3 yesterday and 1 this am. His BG levels today have been 262, 322, 298 i was going to check it again before going to bed. I am so new to this i mentioned on another post about feeding him 2 xs a day as was told i should be feeding him more that diabetic cats need more food then non. I switched him to Raw Food . Looking for a better brand of raw and getting some wet too and maybe a time feeder with a low carb dry. So much information . The vet said he was fine with me checking him at home but gave me zero information on how and what. So I've been doing as much research as i can trying my hardest to make him better and have his diabetes under control

i take back my last post i just looked down and he's once again laying in his pee. I don't know if he just doesn't feel it or what? Guess ill be calling his vet in the am

I think telling the vet is the best plan. It's not unusual for a diabetic cat to pee out of the box, but REALLY unusual for him to just sit in it. :(

HI!
I am not sure how tolerant he is but I put a plate under my boys and then put it in a syringe.
My Rico hard water poo for almost a year an no doctor knew what it was although I had suspicions of c diff after another member mentioned it.....
long story short I started him on this. https://www.animalbiome.com
after just the first day his poo had form and by day 6 it was normal.
Might be worth looking into.

Cats do best when given insulin twice a day because they metabolize it very quickly. I see above that Rocky is getting 1 unit of Lantus only once a day. Is there a reason that your vet has prescribed once a day dosing? You might find that twice a day dosing would help Rocky more.

If you read the resources here on FDMB the recommendation is to dose twice a day, implement a home testing routine and track BG numbers in a spreadsheet. Vets don't always suggest home testing but most will prescribe twice a day dosing. The FDMB recommendations will absolutely help you get your boy to better health. We also understand the confusion that comes from hearing advice that's different from your vet, especially if you like and trust your vet. :)

As far as the stool goes you could try adding pro-pectalin and fortiflora. My IBD kitty has had liquid poos. Metronidazole worked for us but after he came off it, back to liquid poos. Ive found the 2 i mentioned help along with a diet change to proteins the cat had never had before. You could also try plain canned pumpkin - not spiced or with sugar. I haven't yet, but lots of folks around here have had great results with it.

As for the urination issue, I'd talk to my vet. UTI's can sneak up on you and since he's a diabetic he's going to be more prone to infection and his body isn't going to be able to fight it like a "normal" cats would.

Yea i am not sure why he prescribed only once a day. Im guessing he wanted to start off slow. He said it would be about 2 weeks before he would start showing signs of improvement. But I am going to call and see about a double dose.

He's probably more familiar with dosing dogs, but cats have a higher metabolism.
