Rocky - HYPO at night

Last night Rocky did not like his food because of a supplement I added to it so did not have much to eat with his injection (our usual regime).
As I was busy and thinking that my insulin usually has a late onset and food was beef which can spike BG more then turkey or chicken I was not rushing to feed Rocky again but he had his supper an hour later.
But my instinct was to check Rocky's BG before going to bed.
To my utter horror I found out he was hypoing with BG of 2.2 (AlphaTrak meter) at+3 without any symptoms.
I was checking him every 20 - 30 minutes and feeding him food with more carbohydrates. He was fine and enjoying extra food. His BG was rising albeit rather slow.
This morning his BG was 8.4 then 10.1 but he had food 1 hour before that and a lot of food at night.
I'm not sure why his BG dropped like that, it could be delay in feeding, an inaccurate amount of insulin in the syringe (like fat 0.25 instead of 0.25) or his pancreas kicking in.
So this morning I decided not to give any insulin and see what happens.
I'm not sure what to do PM.
Rocky is well regulated but I'm not sure at which point I should stop giving insulin.
If anybody could offer me some advice/opinion I would be really grateful.

Hi Marlena, I'm no specialist myself, I just started 8 weeks ago with this sugar dance ;)
So about the dose I can't help you with that, I'll let that up to the wiser ones, but because of the time difference I guess you'll get a reaction a little later.

Do you use the U100 syringes ? Because I see in your sheet that the dose you give change with 0.25 steps.
If you have the U100 ones, you can give more accurate doses, like for instance 0.20 or 0.15?
Not saying you should do that dose, just as an example to explain what I mean with the change in the dose instead of decreasing with 0.25 (or increasing with 0.25)
A tiny change in dose could be the right amount for Rocky.
Hope someone comes along a.s.a.p. for you and Rocky to help you out :bighug:

Hi Marlena, Good catch last night especially since he did not have any symptoms. When you gave Rocky dinner an hour later since he wouldn't eat the one with the supplement in it, did he eat all his food? If he did eat it all, he could need a reduction. If he didn't eat all his dinner, the lower numbers could be because of that.

Let's see what the others think about whether you should reduce or not.

I like Bobbi's idea. No food - maybe ok. If he ate, maybe a reduction.

So strange that they give you the same ranges for weeks and suddenly throw a curve. We emphasize that to newbies, but they don't think it will happen. So glad you were ready and kept him safe!

@Elizabeth and Bertie, want to weigh in on dose change, if any?
