[Buddy]

Hi everyone, Im new here with a newly diagnosed diabetes cat named Buddy.. :-| Ive read alot of postings here and they have been of great help for me. Im home testing BGS before every insuline shot. Buddies bgs have been Tues 244am, tues 274pm, wed 219am and 257pm. My vet says they are exceptable levels for right now but I dont know???? They seem kinda high... I will admitt that I feel very overwelmed by all that has happened and very alone. I feel like Im walking on pin and needles. I work during the day and Buddy is by himself with my other cat Keyno and I have the worst fear that Ill come home and find Buddy dead and me not being there to help him..... Im usaully a lone ranger but I will admit I am not strong enough to handle this on my own and I could use all the support and help I can get...

It's okay; we've all been there. You're off to a great start. Home testing is vital and you're there already. Those are actually good preshot numbers- I've been at this for 2 months and am only now getting numbers that low.

Hang in there. A few things that will make it easier for.us to help you:
1) what kind of insulin are you using, and what dose?
2) what are you feeding Buddy?
3) where are you located (city, state)? There may be members who live nearby who.can help.
4) tell us more about Buddy.

Also, if you.can check about 6 hours after the shot occasionally, that will give us some idea how low he's getting and will help you adjust the dose as needed.

Welcome John and extra sweet Buddy! You've landed in the right place to get the support you need to help your boy.

VERY FIRST - you are NOT going to walk in and find that Buddy died because of this because you have already starting doing something for him. I think every one of us live thru this fear - believe me, we KNOW - we've been there. When people here say "we know, we understand", we REALLY do. That fear will go away......yes it will take a little time but you'll see...

SECOND - breathe! People here even work full time and manage their cat's diabetes. There are all sorts of things that 'we' have learned to help him take care of himself during that time.

The likely reason your vet said he's satisfied with the current numbers is that they're probably better than they were when you initially took him in. My vet is overjoyed if KT stays in the 100's. Home testing is a huge key to controlling this - you already understand that which is WONDERFUL!
