RISKY STILL NEGATIVE KETONES (Kim's friend)

Risky is doing good from his hospital stay.... still taking 1.5 tablets of Batril daily. He is eating/drinking good. Other than tuna, he is eating dry FF..... remember Risky has never had his BG regulated which is what we were trying to do when he developed UTI and ketones..... Vet now has him on 3 units, x2 daily. His numbers still remain high. This morning it was 519.....now, 5 hours later it is 504. Yesterday he ranged from (every 2-4 hours) 486 459, 395, 420, 455. Should I just continue with the 3 units for now? He is to go back to the vet next Friday. I will be hitting the road headed for home and will be unavailable for the next 5-6 hours. Since you are seeing no movement and ketones are a possibility, I would raise the dose. The dry food seems keeping the insulin from working to get those numbers down.

I think I would go with 3.5 units tonight. Let's see what others say.

Did you try the dry Evo? It's 7% carbs, lower than most dry foods.
 
Hi Martha,
Those numbers are still too high, especially for a kitty that has recently been ketonic.... we need to find a way to convince Risky that low carb wet is yummy! As long as he keeps eating dry you're going to be fighting high numbers. You may have to kick it up to 4, but I hate to see him climbing back up that ladder so quickly. Hoping someone else chimes in soon.

I don't think evo is a grocery store brand. Petsmart or petco would most likely be better options. But I've never bought it....

Petsmart doesn't carry evo, online or locally for me. I found it at pet supplies plus, and at some specialtt stores. Their website has a store locator but I found it at a store not listwd that had just started carrying it.
 
AMAZON.com has EVO, I get the purple and brownish gold bag (checken and turkey I think)
It is a lot cheaper on Amazon and they ship to your house...
I know the purple bag had 6.64% carbs so it is not too bad...
I would listen to Sue and go with 3.5 units tonight depending on his pmps

Just thought I would say....
In future threads, you don't have to specify that you are (Kim's friend) anymore! Just Martha and/or Risky will do from now on. First, I think you're the only Martha, and he's the only Risky, in our little group at the moment. And secondly, once you post here, we're all your friends now! Kim can share you with all of us :smile:

Risky posting high numbers

Thank you Carl :razz: Risky is still posting high numbers (500). I will post all of his numbers for today late this afternoon. Seems the more insulin I give, the higher his BG. Ketones still negative.
