Okay.... I have posted his latest no. to his SS. Latest no. was 486.... increasing little by little. He is due for Insulin in 10 minutes.... final thoughts????? I am so new to this that I just don't have a clue. Is it possible that he needs both ProZinc and R???? Just seems like Prozinc doesn't kick in until 6-8 hours after dose and that he needs something faster acting at dose time for the immediate.

Martha, did you see the reply's on your other thread? It might be easier if you just post one thread each day. I think people might be missing some of your posts?

His numbers just dont make any sense.
What happened last night?
Did you check out the other thread, I think everyone gave input there
I am really at a loss, dont know if you should raise or lower....or keep the same
someone on the other thread suggested lowering, ......Iknow how frustrated you are..
this whole experience can be so overwheliming..
I dont remember all his last numbers but you said he did best when you did not shoot
so maybe you should lower to 1.5 to see what happnes tonight
as long as you are checking for ketones

You have probably shot already but I am for raising. I see a kitty that still needs more insulin. Maybe once he is on wet but the #'s need to come down and I would do 2.5u and wait on the R for now.

You should keep all your comments on one thread, like this is the thread, Risky --8:45 update. It is YOUR thread. If you want to change the heading, like .... shot Risky ..... go to your first post hit the subject title and hit the edit button and change the subject heading. That way all the comments about Risky will be in one place, on one thread. So if you have more to say .... hit post a reply in this post and continue on ..... that way everyone sees all the posts.

Oops...I see my link didn't work! It's ok Martha....you've got a lot to keep up with right now! I know you're worried about Risky & trying to figure out what to do with him! It will get better. :YMHUG:

Well, you have probably already shot by now, but I can still give my thinking....

Yesterday, the 3u gave him a high flat cycle. Last night the 2u gave you some curve and some pinks, but still rather flat.
Today, the 3u gave you that same ugly high flat cycle until +9 when he fell 200 points (I think HI means 600+), then he came up a bit, but ended lower than he started this morning.
I know you want low numbers, at least pinks. The problem is, there isn't enough data yet to determine whether to go up or go down. We all know he was the lowest when he went without insulin for a day or so. But then the whole UTI/ketone problem showed up.
Someone pointed out that yes, he did have ketones, but he didn't go as far as "DKA". I originally feared that the removal of insulin caused the ketones, but I don't really think that is what happened. I think the UTI was lurking since you were dosing 8u, and just manifested itself coincidentally when you dropped the dose.
High numbers mean a higher risk of ketones, but you are checking for them religiously. (I have to say, Martha, that of all the "newbies" I've seen in the past 3 months, nobody has done a better job of testing!).
My gut says the dose needs to be lower, or kept at 2.0 for several cycles.
There has to be something that is constant. The diet is wonky, and undergoing change. His numbers are all over the place, but it's only 2 days of numbers. It's just that he hasn't been able to "settle" into anything, because things are so different day-to-day.

In your shoes, Martha, I'd be going bonkers. All you want is a happy healthy kitty that you don't have to stress out over every two hours! You don't want to hear (I assume) that "patience" is needed.
I guess I feel that unless you keep one thing constant, this puzzle will never get solved. I think the dosage is the easiest variable to keep constant.

Carl
