A little over a year ago we took RIley in to the vet to get his check up and shots. The vet mentioned she was concerned with his weight so she recommended Science Diet Diabetic Dry Food for him.
Then, Riley got diagnosed with diabetes 2 months ago.
After doing extensive research I was certain it was this Dry food diet that gave him diabetes.
Our vet put him on 1u of insulin twice a day to start. Then after 2 weeks his numbers were going down.. But she wanted to try to raise it to 2u.
2 weeks after that we noticed Riley acting lethargic and doing odd things. (poo'ing outside his litter box)
I used this site as a reference guide and decided our vet can't possibly treat him properly and that I need to do this at home!
After leaving our vet and taking charge of Riley's illness ourselves, changing his diet to all wet (Blue Buffalo WIlderness) and lowering is insulin intake....
I feel confident in saying..... HE'S IN REMISSION!!!!
We stopped his shots two days ago and I've been checking his levels every few hours since. He's maintained perfect consistent levels between 110-115.
Proof that leaving our vet and taking charge of his health ourselves and with the help from this web site was the best thing we could have done for our kitty.
15 years and still going strong. YAY RILEY!
Extra special THANK YOU to everyone out here that has helped us! I'm certain this site and those that helped, saved our cat's life!
