Could I get some thoughts on Riley's SS?

It was brought to my attention last week that Riley's amps were probably food inflated. So, since I get his amps around 7am I have been feeding him w/o checking his bg if he wakes me for food before 4am. If it is after 4am I have been getting a reading from him.(those would be the +10's) and then feeding him. I will be getting an auto feeder this weekend, I think that will help w. the nighttime eating. Right now even if I feed him at 3am I really have no way of knowing if he eats it all or snacks on it until I wake up. With the autofeeder I will set it to open at 3am and close at 5 am. That should ensure no food inflated amps #'s.

Thanks!

Did we ever try a redo and go back to one unit? That's where his numbers were best. He gets okay yellows and blues every few cycles but they are in the higher range of those. If you'd do that, check for ketones.

I think it's either that or raise again and continue raising every couple of cycles until you see a breakthrough.

Either way, it would help if you'd post once daily and check in, if possible.

Let's see what others think.

I think the auto feeder is a great idea. No food 2 hours prior to AMPS/PMPS.

I'm with Sue, the best numbers have all been on the 1 unit dose. I might go back to 1 unit and see if you can get those numbers back. Of course check for ketones.

Thanks. I will go back to 1 unit and see how that goes. I have never tested for ketones before. This should be interesting.............

The only way I could get a test was to fill a new box with aquarium gravel and leave him in the room with it. Other people put in a square of saran wrap where the cat "usually" goes. Scooping up urine midstream was never something Oliver was going to cooperate with.....

I think the "reboot" is worth trying, but I would advise not waiting too long to see positive results. In other words, if you don't see fairly quick results (say 3 days at that dose of 1.0), then I'd try to up it, but instead of .5u at a time, go with .25.

I am thinking that the "right dose" is somewhere in between 1.0 and 3.0. and you might have missed it. I liked his numbers on 1.5 too. It looks like you went from 2.0 to 1.0 too quickly. Likewise, you went from 2.0 to 3.0 all at once. Riley had "good cycles" on 2, and on 3 at times. What I don't like about the 3.0 unit dose is that it has given you higher numbers overall. The PS numbers have been higher, but not necessarily due to "bouncing". It doesn't look like his nadirs have been really low, or low enough to lead to repeated bounces. So his curves are overall higher on the higher doses.

To me, if you have better cycles on a lower dose, and the numbers all start to look higher on the higher dose, it indicates that you moved "past the right dose" someplace in between 1 and 3 units.

It's funny. I was really dreading the ketone test. Riley's litter box is in the back of a walk in closet downstairs in an entry area. It is totally out of the way and it would be difficult to "catch him going". Tonight I had just walked in from work and headed up the steps. I realized about half way up that Riley was behind me. Since I hadn't seen him when I came in the door I realized he had to have been in the litterbox. I sprinted the rest of way up the steps and grabbed the ketone test strips. I had been reading the directions this morning so the bottle of strips were sitting right there on my kitchen counter. :-D I opened the bottle and ran back down and there was still a puddle in the box that hadn't been absorbed into the litter. (have never been so excited to see cat pee)- I stuck the strip in the puddle being careful not to touch the litter. The test was negative for ketones!

Thanks Carl. I will go back to 1 unit tomorrow morning and see how that goes. I will also check in daily for advise as Sue had suggested in an earlier post.

Thanks!
