Riddle me this...

Hi All,

I usually post in the Prozinc forum but thought I'd move over here for maximum visibility.

Riker was DX in December 2018, but was initially on Vetsulin so I kind of consider those first two months a loss. He's been on Prozinc since late Feb. Still not regulated but his clinical signs are generally much better since we started insulin, so we just take it one day at I time and I hope I'm helping him.

Anyway, my question is this: We were on vacation from 3/17 to 3/22. I found a great pet sitter who came twice a day to test/feed/shoot. Additionally, his auto feeder was set to provide meals at two other times during the day and overnight.

While we were away, I couldn't believe the numbers the cat sitters were sending me... he'd never been in the 300s consistently for AMPS and PMPS. I was excited! I kept dosing and meals exactly the same when we came home, and BOOM. We're riding the numbers roller coaster all over again.

Sooo... is it ME?! Do I stress him out? Is it the fact that he was eating less frequently, and perhaps less in general while I was gone? (Our civvie would also have had access to the autofeeder, but she's not the dominant cat, Riker is.)

Also, WTF are these weirdly high numbers in the middle of the day?? (See 3/23 to present). The last curve I did on him was textbook (3/8)... I've ordered some control solution so I can test our RelionPrime meter and rule out a malfunction (I tested myself and it was normal sooo) and will do another curve this weekend.... any other thoughts of what the hell might be going on are greatly appreciated! o_O

I've never published a spreadsheet so no help there. I have however used Vetsulin on our last two sugar cats and especially with Noah never got him regulated. He bounced and his curves were a mess so 1) you're better off with Prozinc, 2) maybe a month is not enough time for a new insulin to get the numbers you want and 3) it's not you unless you chase him around the house with a broom. Unless there's some other medical mystery I'd wait another week and see if things settle down.
Welcome to crazy town. If you had ever seen Noah's numbers you'd be questioning my sanity.
 
Since your sitter didn't do any testing other than Pre-shot, I think it's totally possible that the numbers she might have gotten would have been just as crazy as the ones you're getting. I don't see any huge difference.

It's also pretty common for cats to eat less when their usual caretaker is gone.

I think you probably just need to stay the course and give it a little more time. Don't hold a dose that's not working for too long either or you'll just encourage some glucose toxicity to set in.
 
Well damn. I had hoped those pinks were the start of something good. I'll start inching up the dose and we'll see what happens. Thanks all :)
 
I think it's time to raise the dose. Do 1.25 for a few days and see what happens. He probably wasnt eating as much
