I'm wondering if anyone has had a rhinoscopy and or head CT done on a kitty before. I officially adopted Charlie earlier this month but I've been temp fostering him since Mother's Day. He is around 3 to 4 years old and was pulled from a high kill shelter and the end of April. He had severe dental disease and had all but one tooth pulled after he went into the rescue. Since I've had him he has been sneezing and gets brownish discharge around his eyes. He was seeing a vet through the rescue that was a volunteer that came to my house.. The day I picked him up I was told he had conjuctivitis and I was given and antibiotic/steroid eye ointment to give him twice a day. His eyes did ok on the ointment, a few days after I would stop it he would start with brownish discharge. He was also sneezing when I got him. After about a week at my house he was put on azithromycin but it was only an eight day course. The azith didn't seem to do much to help but I know eight days is not the standard. The rescue vet then thought maybe allergies and we did pred for a while. That didn't seem to help or hurt. The rescue vet then thought maybe try another antibiotic or possible polyp. Funds are always an issue with many rescues. Finally I got approval to take him to a vet office the rescue uses. I had to wait 30 days to finally get a vet appt. Very frustrating. The vet there thought probably herpes and most likely chronic. This vet was the one that did his dental. She gave him the intranasal/ocular vaccine and had me start the lysine and vetri dmg. That was on July 23rd. I officially adopted him in the beginning of August. My vet started him on doxy. He was on that for two weeks and seemed a little better. A few days after stopping the doxy I noticed he had a winky eye. That was a Thursday morning and we didn't have an appt with my regular vet until Saturday. Well when I saw the winky eye I thought he has an ulcer. I had some famvir left over from another kitty Boo(GA) who had been treated for an eye ulcer the previous year. I gave it to Charlie. By Saturday morning his eye wasn't winky anymore. My vet was not too pleased however she did mention the possibility of doing a round of famvir if the doxy didn't do anything. I have an appt with my vet on Thursday. I'm thinking she will probably try a full round of azith. She did mention about getting him scoped at some point. I feel like I should probably do this. I'm sorry for such a long post. They just don't know what is going on with my boy. It could be herpes, calici or a polyp. I also wonder about allergies. I had Charlie confined for about a month. He has been with the rest of the crew since mid June. No on else has anything upper respiratory going on. I was most worried about Brie since he has the compromised immune system. Brie hasn't gotten any vaccines for a few years. He has cancer, CKD and diabetes and he hasn't caught anything. The other two are up to date on their shots. Sorry for going on and on. Please share if you have had a kitty have any of these procedures.
