Hello. I gave Dixie her full dose of 1U Prozinc for dinner even though she wasn't eating very much. Typically, she would go back for more food around an hour after shooting but I think today had a bit too much activity (visitors, vacuuming, etc) that messed up her routine. She didn't eat much tonight and I had to keep coaxing her to take bites/ She is also recovering from 6 teeth extractions that took place 6 days ago and she is very constipated.

I tested her with my Bravo human meter and it just read 47, 45 at +2.75. I also used my second meter which is the One Drop meter and that showed 40, but it seems to always read lower than my Bravo meter.

I just fed her 40g of chicken gravy cat food that is 14% carbs. It is the highest carb food I have. She gobbled it down very quickly (which was a relief!).

I can stay up all night and I have a lot of test strips. I also have corn syrup.

If anyone has any advice or support then I would appreciate it. I didn't tag this as 911 because she isn't below 30 and she is showing no symptoms.

How long will it take for this gravy food to kick in? I think she usually nadirs at around +3, +4, or +5, so I am a bit concerned that she will go lower!

Hi, I'm sorry. I just saw this. Give me a minute to read up and see Dixie's SS.

ETA: I'm not familiar with Prozinc Dosing Methods, but to answer your question on how long it takes food to kick in - it's 20-30 mins.

Looks like her nadirs are at +4. I would feed her a little more and test again at +4

Thank you. I will give her some more food.

I am wondering, how temporary is the rise from the food? Will it wear off and she will drop again? Or is that usually only a concern if we are before/at the nadir?

I think that is more of a concern with depot insulins and earlier in the cycle. Dixie is close to her nadir. If you monitor her till +5, you should be good. I would feed LC now - if she will eat it and test at +4. If she is comfortably above 50 at +4, I would not feed and test at +5 to see if she is still rising without food.

Thank you so much! I do have LC food out for her but she is being very picky and isn't eating it :( It definitely isn't a hunger thing though because if I put out the HC food then she will scarf it down. Should I keep feeding the HC food then? Or wait and see what happens at +4?

Just a small housekeeping note - 3.0 mmol at +3.25 would be 54 mg/dl. Your SS says 50. Not that it makes a big difference except psychologically! :p

The last she ate was 14% food at +2.75?
(14% is MC btw)

How many mins to +4?

Thank you for pointing that out! It can be annoying to have to manually calculate this stuff :D

Yes, that was the last she ate. Before that, she was just picking at her typical LC food. And thanks for mentioning the difference between MC and HC food. I haven't ever fed her this stuff before so that is good to know. I don't think I have any HC food. I will need to buy some ASAP!

10 mins till +4

My kitty loves her HC too. When she gets to eat it, I actually have a hard time getting her back to LC!
Oh I am not looking forward to that! Dixie's previous owners said that she could be very picky with food... but when she was diabetic so she was just hungry all the time and it was so easy for me to feed her! She finished every meal right on time and it was great. Maybe now that she is regulated she is going back to her normal behaviour :(

I will go get her +4 now.

Ah that is perfect then :) I am glad I will know what to do for next time. She has definitely earned a dose reduction :cat:

Thank you again! Even though I was prepared I also felt very unprepared so your help was greatly appreciated!

If you are going to be up, you could get another test at +4.5 or +5 - just for your own peace of mind.

Yup, I am planning to be up anyways so I'll get some more tests in.
