I was going to do a curve Monday. But have had 2 possible fur shots the last 2 days. Does it reset Everytime you have a fur shot and should I just skip the curve? I get so frustrated with these fur shots. I have to have my husband hold her and I have to secure her head down or she tries to run.

How & when are you giving her her shot? My boy is on prozinc insulin( vetsulin is a very harsh insulin) I give him his shot while he is eating & he doesn't even notice. You should see about switching to the generic Lantus or prozinc insulin.

Giving every 12 hr at around 6 and 6. Scruff of neck.
We are wanting to go to prozinc.
But this vet didn't want to.
I saw my old vet with my other cat the other day and discussed with him and he said he is a prozinc user. Only issue he is retired and only works as needed.
So I will have to have a conversation with this vet or either find a new one. We will see at the next appt.

I actually switched vets because my old vet retired, he couldn't get another vet to take over so he's back from retirement & we are back with him. The vet that I switched to & later fired put Panzer on prozinc( he was on novalin to start) but they were not on board with me ditching the dry food, switching to only wet pate, & most importantly home testing! My old vet gladly took Panzer back as a patient & are on board with what I'm doing with the help of the FDMB. He was actually quite impressed with Panzer's spreadsheet & all of the knowledge I have gained. Alot of vets are set in there ways, so you may have to find another vet. I give my boy his shot in the same area but I do it while he's eating, try that & see if it helps:cat: good luck to you & your girl Kloey she's beautiful :bighug:

Thank you. I am quite sad my other vet retired. He would have been ok with treatment. He was so impressed that I was testing her at home.
Oh well, I'm sure if the new vet won't come around, I will find someone who will.
I will definitely try giving it to her while eating. Maybe that will help. Thank you.

Your very welcome, hang in there things will get better :cat:

To answer your original question - no, you don't need to "reset" your count.

That likely is a phrase you may see with caregivers whose kitties are on the depot insulins like Lantus, Levemir (or biosimilars), who are following the TR dosing method. To my knowledge, that doesn't exist with Vetsulin because it is an in and out insulin, so fur shots wouldn't affect your curve data unless of course you did a fur shot the day you were running a curve. Running a curve gives you a snapshot of you when your cat onsets, nadirs and how much duration you are getting that day, and is helpful when making dose decisions. That said, you have plenty of data, and multiple tests each day and night, so running a curve on any particular day likely won't give you much extra info on how the insulin is working for your cat (since you are basically catching lots of data daily anyway).

Ok so I tested her urine and it has a trace of ketones. Haven't had ketones in 12 days until today. I'm thinking I need to go ahead and go up on her insulin.

I think based on the BG tests recently, you'd be ok to go up to 1.25u, especially with trace ketones, and since you are testing her BG levels often, but I'm not a Vetsulin user. I'll tag a couple of people who I believe have experience with Vetsulin.

@FrostD
@JanetNJ

Keep checking for ketones, add as much water as possible in her food, make it even soupy if she'll tolerate that. How is she acting? Any signs of lethargy? Eating ok?

If any subsequent ketone tests come back more than trace, that's considered an emergency, and I'd be taking her to your nearest vet.

She is not really showing any signs. She's eating good. I did notice her drinking a bit more this morning. When I tested the urine, It was more kind of between neg and trace, not quite trace but not negative.
I will increase on her next dose. Thanks so much.

You're welcome! Good to hear, that makes me just a little less worried :). Still worth monitoring those ketones as much as possible, just to catch any changes that may need vet help. Let's hope that all stays well.

I will try to get another ketone check this evening.

Yes, and like I said yesterday remember it'll be 1.2U in your syringes. The right-side markings, the third line up should be 1.2U.

Do you think that is going to be enough. I'm kicking myself for going down to 1u. Not giving her enough has caused the ketones again.

Unfortunately you can't rush things with Vetsulin. She had a 124 at 1U, we don't want them below 90. So let's start with 1.2U for 3 days and see where she's at. Her numbers aren't horrible, just need to nudge them down a bit

i agree do 1.25. make sure to put extra water in her food and let her eat as much as she wants.

Ok, we gave her some Friskies 5% carb for dinner. She ate half a can and we loaded it with water. She actually likes it better soupy.

We have the 0.4 marking syringes so FrostD said to use those markings and we gave her 1.2u.

We also give a snack (1 portion Sheba) at +1.5-+2 and the again around +4. I will set the auto feeder up so she will have an extra one during the night.

Hopefully that will get rid of the ketones.

how did you know
I usually check the Members section in the mornings, on the right are birthdays and new members. Sometimes it's hard working it into a thread if it's sad or someone's cat is very sick. I'm going to be a senior citizen this year. :blackeye: At one time I couldn't conceive I'd ever be 30. I kept my promise about never owning more than one tie or losing my humor. Never did get our softball team to change it's name to I Urinate Frequently, some guys get old and forget how to laugh. o_O

Ha ha you’re funny. I like the team name

That was an all male older guy's league meant to be fun which it never was. The day I showed up with fuchsia colored laces in my cleats it was all over. Small minded old farts won't fit on most tee shirts.
