Sorry I don't have profile page. Couldn't get it to work for me.

Cheynne is 16 years old diagnosed on 7-9-12. Started on 1 unit insulin (lantus) worked down to .50 BID.
As you can see he hasn't had any insulin for 8 1/2 days. I know the protocol is I have to wait 14 days to think he is in remission.

I started out giving him all different brands of low carb canned food from binky's list. My friend had talked to her naturlist for me and he said to definately get him on one brand only. He preferrs Pet Guard and Innova. I chose Fancy feast since that is what I had the most already of. It did seem to make a difference once I went to the one brand.

Now, I would like to take him off of the Fancy Feast and give him Pet Guard. I talked to the people there and they said that most of their foods were low carb.

But I don't want to make his numbers go back up. So, what do you all think?

Thanks for all your support,

Martine

Martine,
Can you call them back, and ask them if they can give you the "as fed values" for their foods? You need to know how low "low carbs" are to them. As well as you and Cheyenne are doing, it would be awful if you switched and took a step backwards. nailbite_smile

Hi Carl,

When I talked to them I did ask for as fed value and they told me they were under 10%. I don't remember the actual number off hand. They aren't a big company and you can actually talk to someone when you call.

Squeem, Thanks so much for all your info on the profile, but I tried a gazillian times and then gave up. I am sure it is something I am or not doing. I have a mac and am pretty much computer learn as you go.

Hello Martine,

I just looked on the hobo list .... and there are 2 varieties of PetGuard on it and they are not low carb.
I will find the link for you , I just have a printed copy in my lap. I think I got the link from Carl but my memory is lapsing. nailbite_smile

PetGuard Organic Chicken and vegetable-- is 19% Kcal from carbs.
PetGuard Venison and Rice -- is 42% Kcal from carbs.

I'd be a little suspicious of their claim to be low carb with those two as a comparison.
They could be making a new line but if they are that small a company, will they still be around in 5 years?
Small businesses have it pretty tough right now. They have a lot of competition to survive.

And the numbers look nice. I hope this is it!!

Carl and Rhiannon,

On the Hobos list, should I be most interested in % of carbs as fed or the Kcal from carbs? It gets very confusing :)

Thanks

K/cal from carbs is the number we are talking about when we say "less than 10%".
