Relion test solution

I realized today that I had one test strip for my one touch glucometer left. since so many people here say good things about the relion and how cheap the strips are I decided to brave walmart. It was a cruddy experience, but it was cheap so I was happy. Now I get home and the instructions say I need test solution. Is this just precautionary as the meter ages or do I really need this. I prefer not to have to go back to walmart until I use all two hundred test strips I bought.

Is the test solution absolutely necessary or can I go without for awhile? If it makes a difference my relion and my one touch tested 207 for the relion and 231 for the one touch...close enough for govt work right?

The tests you did for relion vs. OTU tell me the relion show that the relion is OK.

You can be the control solution for any meter. Unless you are diabetic, test yourself if you think the meter might be wonky. If the test shows a normal level, the meter is OK.

I have used the Relion for over a year. I used the test solution after a year of use just to make sure it was still in range.

Thank you! I really didn't want to go back to walmart again. I got 100 relion test strips, a meter, and alcohol swabs for the same price as 50 one touch strips at walgreens...a GREAT DEAL! But I have very little patience for walmart, especially in this weather!

You don't have to go to Walmart to get the test solution. Somewhere inside the meter's instruction book will be a note about control solution with a 1-800 number. You can call that number any time of the day or night (and Lord knows I usually called at like 2-3am) and a very nice person on the other end will send you a bottle for free. Its good for 3 months, so just call back when you need more. They send it out asap and it usually arrives in a couple of days, I never had it take longer then 5 business days to arrive. Just say you are the caregiver for the patient, thats all they need to know - they don't care beyond that. The main reason to have control solution is not so much to test the meter - but to test each new vial of test strips to make sure it is working properly. Sometimes if they are stored improperly (mid-summer heatwave etc) they won't work right. I had 1 vial test as off during the year I used the Relion Micro meter, all I did was call the company and they immediately sent me a new vial for free along with a padded mailer to send them back the bad test strips for them to check out. It was very easy.

FYI: Walmart doesn't even carry the control solution (I asked). I used a control solution from a Bayer meter with my Relion and the results were very close between the two. It's good to know I can call the 800 number and they'll send a bottle for free, I think I'll do that soon!
