Relion syringes vs Ulti care

I just returned from walmart because Georgie needed some more syringes. I told the pharmacist that I needed the Relion brand and she said they only had Ulti care syringes which she quoted as being "exactly the same". It turns out that the Ulti care brand does not have .5 unit markings, only 1 unit markings. Just a warning for those about to purchase new ones as they are non refundable and non returnable. Should I just try to work with these syringes by eye?

Hi there,

Did you talk to the pharmacist who sold the Ulticare syringes to you? To state that they are the same is not true. I would fight for the money back if I were you.

Find out who licenses pharmacists in Iowa and file a complaint. It will help others down the road.

For me, as a 38 year type 1 human diabetic who also cares for diabetic cats, this is personal. If I or my cats need .5 units of insulin, that is what we need.

If I can help, let me know.

I will definitely check into it. I called the pharmacy yesterday afternoon and the gentleman said that they are non refundable. He also asked me who helped me with my purchase and I explained what the lady looked like. He basically said- sorry about the mix up and have a good day.

I bought the wrong size lancets and was unable to return them. BUT i called Relion and they sent me a Walmart gift card for $10 which covered the cost of the boxes of lancets. I then donated the lancets. I would call the manufacturer number on the box--Walmart may not be able to return them, but they gave you the wrong item and that's not your fault.

Hello! I just realized that the generic syringes my pharmacist gave me also don't have the half-unit markings. In the interest of not tossing out 99 brand new syringes, I thought I'd pick up a box of the half-unit marked ones for fractional doses and keep the generics for whole-number doses until they're used up. Will using two different brands of syringes screw up the dosing, though?

I'm very new to this, my cat was just diagnosed a couple weeks ago. I've been lurking around FDMB and about to post an intro, profile, ss, etc on the main health page, but I thought I'd ask this while it was on my mind.

Thanks!
Nancy

I was wondering the same thing but I think that the dosing should be the same. Otherwise there would be a major issue. I think the difference is just the absence of half unit markings.

Welcome to the forum Nancy! I see this is your first post. I am relatively new here too. My Georgie got diagnosed several months ago but I feel like I am finally getting the hang of things although I am still trying my darndest to get his levels steady and low. Are you using Lantus? What are you feeding your Huey? Are you home testing? I have to tell you that this group has been amazingly supportive and is extremely knowledgable and helpful. I hope that you and your little guy are doing okay. Let me know if you need any help or advice from a relatively new cat diabetes mom!
