ReliOn Monitor

Hi guys,

Does anyone have the ReliOn monitor? I ask because I have been using it for a few weeks now and I really like it. I'm only questioning it now because my kitty is on the path towards OTJ, and only takes drops of insulin here and there. I noticed twice today when testing his glucose, my Bradley moved around more than usual. This made it harder for me to get the blood on the strip and there was less blood than I am normally able to get, but the monitor did beep, indicating it registered. His glucose was great both times, but part of me wonders if for some reason, since there wasn't as much blood as I'm normally able to get, his total glucose level is not registering and his actual glucose is higher than what the monitor showed. I hope this is making sense. His numbers were in the two digit range, which I am thrilled about but I want to make sure the amount of blood wouldn't affect that. I figure it's okay since the monitor beeped. Any ideas?

which relion. I do know some of the monitors I use will beep and give a reading and there was not enough blood. I just retest when in doubt. so I guess it can happen with any meter. one I have even beeps and counts done and then gives me an error. go figure

I have not used that one but I would guess anything is possible with a machine. I would just retest if you question if enough blood. hope this helps

Thank you. I was just wondering if the amount of blood does affect testing, even if it was enough for the machine to register a number. He's normally very good but after I got that great number the first time (with the smaller amount of blood than usual), I retested right after and he moved again - LOL! Anyway, I guess we'll find out soon enough if they were the true numbers.

I just tested once again about an hour afterwards and it was a bit higher but still in the normal range and he also had just eaten before I tested him too, which may have made him spike a tad.

lol. guess there is no definite answer. the amount can cause a lower reading even if machine beeps. think that happened on the accucheck. I knew wheezer could not have been that low (machine beeped and counted down) so I tested again and I was right. sometime these things just happen. it looked as though I had enough blood but maybe I didn't or maybe it was just one of those things. I was just using a accucheck advantage and it would beep and count all the way down only to give me and error. I knew I had enough blood so go figure

The Confirm will give you an error message if it doesn't read enough blood. I seem to recall seeing an E-7 on one occasion.

I use the Relion. You want to get the blood at the tip of the strip not the top. From the manual:
Obtain a blood drop (see pages 36-37).
Apply blood to the end of the test strip. Capillary
action will pull the blood into the strip. The meter will
beep when it detects that blood has been applied.
The meter will begin to count down. Do not add
blood on top of the test strip, as you may receive
an inaccurate result.

I had the hardest time getting it to read because I was trying to get it on the strip and it wouldn't read even with a lot of blood. Now it's much easier because I just need to get the tip in the blood and don't need nearly as much.

I have the ReliOn Micro and there were times when I couldn't see the drop of blood (ok, I do wear glasses, and often tested without them on) but it read and yes sometimes those readings were high.

I used to use the Relion Micro, and every once in a while it would give me a low reading if I didn't get enough blood on in the strip. Of course, with such an odd low number I would immediately test again and receive a correct reading. It was always obvious that the reading was off, though, because it would be noticeably low.

My kitty has moved on me during testing too. I use the ReliOn Micro meter. Most of the time when there isn't enough blood, I get the E-7 error. When I've questioned a result, I've retested and think I've always gotten a similar reading. There are a couple variables that can affect the meter reading on all meters, so when in doubt, re-test.
