I have been using the reliant meter for about 2 weeks now 1st let me say that I have tried every pet meter available and that the alpha trac2 is by far more superior to any major available right now. After using the relion meter successfully I am now using about 4 or 5 strips to get one sample and keep getting the error message 4. Not only that. I'm poking Apache 4-5 times to get a reading !!!! That's what pissed me off the most .I called Walmart and spoke to representative who called up relion who gave her lip service and said that the meter is not designed for pets therefore they will not guaranteer or warranty the The strips. I explained that I am in a group with about 50000 members and that everyone uses this meter and that I think they should call the manufacturer and have them Send me Some reimbursement strips since I had no problems with the other batch of strips. They will do nothing. People come to this group scared and nervous as I was. The last thing they need is test equipment that is garbage and doesn't work. The strips are about 25 cents a piece snd if I'm using 4 to 5 I might as well pay a dollar a piece for alpha Trac strips. In the 6 months I used that....not once did I get a err4. The meter uses the smallest amount if blood than ANY other meter and readout is instant. I can't belive walmart has opted to not replace defective strips in lieu of losing business. I informed them I would make this thread. They didn't care. Please don't support a company that does not care about its patrons.im going to try to find if there is a way to recalibrate the alpha trac to a human meter reading. Some people will bite off their nose to spite their face as walmart choses.

Sorry to hear of your struggles. I used an AlphaTrac II for a while and I did find the meter is able to read a very small droplet which is the only good thing about it.

Unfortunately, the dosing methods like TR are based on human meter numbers so it was easier to switch, and by then we had gotten the hang of the Hendrick Pokey and it wasn't a huge deal to get a slightly larger droplet. I never used a Relion, we used a CareSens meter.

My thoughts are that the ATII is a good starting point for many because it can read a small droplet, but switching to a human meter also makes sense once you have the hang of things, imo.

Ivd used other pet meters that require more blood than the alpha trac so it's not that and it's not the meter. The meter is built well, it's the strips that are garbage. If I can find the difference in alpha and relion readings ,,,maybe the tr method can be updated for pet meters?!?
