Relion meter - 5 different readings in a row this morning

Hi,
I'm wondering if any of you have experienced multiple readings from your meters especially the Relion Confirm.
The first reading I took this morning was 132 @ 9:02 a.m., it was a smaller drop of blood than the next four times so I don't know if that is what gave the smaller reading or not? I ended up taking four more readings to try & be sure where his (Oz's) level might actually be before giving his shot. The five readings are 132 @ 9:02, 291 @ 9:05, 355 @ 9:07, 279 @ 9:08 & 264 @ 9:30. Now to make matters worse between the third & fourth readings I dropped the meter which bounced from the table to a chair & then onto a hard tile floor. Wanting to see how the meter was working after that I tested myself twice in a row getting an 86 & then an 87. Will these meters take a fall are they fairly tough, & most importantly have any of you seen many different readings in a row like that? I was very concerned seeing the 132 first since I wouldn't be sure whether to give a lesser dose or none at all with that reading ( Oz is currently getting 1.5u). Are these Relion meters good to use I know we use it like many of you because of the more affordable test strips.

Thank you for any help you may have

Ian

Re: Relion meter - 5 different readings in a row this mornin

I would toss out that 132 reading as a bad reading (maybe from not enough blood). The other readings are in line with the +/-20% meter variance. Something to remember is that at higher numbers, 20% is a lot larger spread than it is at lower numbers, so 291, 279, and 264 are all basically the "same" number. The 355 looks to be one of those readings that is +20% off from the "real" number (still within meter variance, but it's an extreme). So, if you remove the outliers (132 and 355), the average of the remaining 3 numbers is 278. And when in doubt, do exactly what you just did and retest. If you're worried about accuracy, you can always order a control solution directly from the manufacturer, but I've never bothered with that. I do what you did and test myself to make sure it's still "close enough."

My meters have all been pretty durable. I've even hucked them across the room a time or two without any issues.

Altho' I love the confirm and micro, I did have a meter go wacky on me once. I called the number on the back of the meter, they replaced it for me at no cost. I didn't tell them it was for my cat tho'. If you get this hodge podge again, I would call them. Even good products can have bad days. I use the micro and love it.

Thank you Squeaky, Kpassa & BJM

I talked to the Relion folks & ordered some of the control juice.
The meter seems to be ok but I'll check it to be sure.
It seems every few days we learn something new about all of this, gets kinda stressfull trying to keep up.
I appreciate your replies, it's the only thing that builds confidence that we're doing the right things.

Thank You
Ian
