Hi All,

We started off using the ReliOn Lancing device which came with 10 or so lancets in the box. We had no issues drawing blood using those, but it did not state was size the lancets were. When we ran out, I bought the 30 gauge lancets because they looked the same as the ones that came with the device. Ever since we started with the 30 gauge, I have to try 4-5 times to get a drop of blood! And I am doing it the exact same way as before. The lancing device is set as deep as it goes. The only other kinds I see in the store are 31 or 26 gauge. I've seen people mention using 28 gauge, but would 26 be okay? I don't want to cause him pain by using something too big but the 30 gauge has got to go! Thanks in advance. :)

The 26 gauge are "bigger" so will make a bigger "hole"

If you're having trouble getting blood with higher gauges like 31, I'd try the 26

I use the 26 with the Relion device, that's fine! I always had trouble getting blood with any of the higher gauge ones unless his ear was really warm. Cats have very few nerve endings in their ears (less than people have in their fingers), so I wouldn't worry about hurting him. You can always add a tiny bit little neosporin + pain relief ointment after the poke if you're concerned.
