I have written previously about Luke who is getting 7 units of Lantus twice a day. I have had one unsuccessful attempt at getting a BG test...not enough blood. About 3 weeks ago, I discovered inappropriate urination. At that time the vet had gotten an unmeasurable read (HI) from the meter and we increased up to the 7. Since that time, I honestly thought that perhaps maybe things were getting better. By the way, his quality life is very high. He may sleep more than before but he is affectionate, co-exists with my other 3 cats, the most abnormal thing he has done lately is to cry for a special serving of water and he likes ice in it. (This is an improvement because before he was in toilets, licking the bath tub, etc). Today however, I came home to a pile of feces on my runner rug and I took a look closely at the rug and it has been urinated on multiple times. So things are not going as smoothly as I had hoped. I have not transitioned off the dry food yet although I am not giving him an abundance of grazing chow but am encouraging him to eat the wet food. I called and spoke with my vet's wife who is EXTREMELY familiar with this situation as Luke is the first cat that they have been unable to regulate. She feels that forcing Luke to not eat chow if that is what he is used to is just another stressor on a cat that is already stressed. Although she did say that her husband would have no problem with Luke eating wet food but that at this point, they are not thinking that this is the solution. I guess I am looking for any thoughts on this. I am due to bring another cat in for her yearly on Thursday and they said I can bring Luke along for them to do a BG - even if its not at the appropriate time...they would just be trying to get any number that was anything other than HI.
