Day Three on ProZinc

Kind of a flat day today. I'd better go look up what that means. Redd seems extra grumpy today and it may be a pancreatitis flare up. Buprenex in a.m. and p.m. for pain.

AMPS 371
+2 442
+3 370
+7 392
+10 386
PMPS 366

Does look a little flat today. If I look back though, they are similar to you got on twice the dose before. So it's a little encouraging?

Hi and Welcome to our group.

3 units is a whopping dose of Prozinc. If you are testing for ketones and getting PS's and mid cycle tests, I think I would drop down to 1 unit and start over.

I hate to even ask this....but, does anyone see any similarities to Risky in this SS?

For You Ellen...Risky was a cat that came here on extremely high doses and high numbers and flat cycles.....he was getting too much insulin. Please note that I am not suggesting that, but just looking at the SS and thinking!

Everyone, check out her history. She Started in April with one unit of Lantus. Up to 8 units when she switched to ProZinc. She went back to 3 units to start ProZinc. I would be nervous going back to one unit.

I did look prior to posting and I agree it looks like she has the data to be at 3 units. It just looks very complicated! But, we will figure it out!

What I find encouraging, even though the numbers are still fairly high, is that each preshot since starting Prozinc have been a lower number. The curves aren't there yet, but the numbers are coming down. That's progress, no?

Does anyone else have experience with bupe, and does anyone know if it effects numbers? I would figure the pain relief would tend to bring down numbers, right?

One more observation - on the days where she has gotten a +2 (not too many), Redd has always been higher than his AMPS number, so it looks like a boost from eating, and then onset happens after two hours, even when he was on lantus.

Wow! You guys are awesome. I'm so glad for the input.

Redd's amps was a nice surprise this morning, even though 371 is still a lousy number. (Thanks for pointing out the positives Carl.) I was afraid it was going to be in the 500's again. The +2 increase is most likely a food spike before onset as he usually eats just a little before his shot and finishes the rest right after. I'm going to keep doing a +2 and a +3 test when I can to keep an eye on that.

I do have ketone test strips now but was unsuccessful at catching a sample today. He kept peeing when I wasn't around. I'll be doubling my cat stalker efforts tomorrow.

I'm afraid to go all the way back to 1 unit but if my numbers don't budge in the next week I guess I'll have to make the up or down decision then. It is so frustrating that both too little insulin AND too much insulin can give you high numbers.

Ellen,
I try my best to find a "bright side", and when I do, I make sure to pass it along
371 really isn't dreadfully lousy either. Everything is relative. Beats the heck out of blacks and reds. They'll get better too.

There are folks here that can give you tips and tricks for catching him while he's peeing. I found testing Bob for ketones with sticks to be a non-starter. He demands absolute privacy while doing his business. I ended up getting a meter that can check both BG and blood ketones, and that's what I use to test him. The strips are ridiculously high priced though.

Very true! You will find (as if you don't already know!) that there are very few "etched in stone" rules when it comes to sugardancing. Lots of trial and error, and fortunately, there's an unlimited wealth of experience on this board for you to utilize. No matter what the question is, somebody here knows the answer. You just have to find that person for each issue that comes up. One good way to do that is to include the "issue" in the subject line of your thread, and post it on "Health" for those issues that are not insulin-specific if needed, as your audience is much larger there.

In your shoes, I'd be feeling encouraged!

Oliver was a cat who would NOT pee if we were watching or anywhere around. Our solution was to get aquarium gravel and put it in a clean litter box. Then we put him in a room with it and went upstairs for a while. Seems cats can't stand not to christen a clean box. Once he went, we had time to dip the sticks in because the urine didn't stick to the gravel.

Hope Redd is easier. There are many cats here who will let their owners stick a ladle in midstream. Not Oliver!
