The vet just called re urin smaple. Everything was fine but they found red cells. What does that mean... does he have cancer? Now I really worry. We decided to redo another sample. Anybody ever had that problem?

Greylie is right now on antibiotics for a pwa infection.. Clindadrops. and I think I am going to finish that first and then go for another urin sample. Maybe there weon't be any red blood cells when he is done with it,

First - how did they collect the sample?

If via cystocentesis - a needle in the bladder - if done poorly, it is possible to get some blood from the puncture.

If done correctly, red blood cells could indicate some sort of infection (very common), inflammation (somewhat common), or neoplasia (growth of any sort; least common) which was ulcerating, resulting in blood in a urine sample.

Urinary tract infections are very common in diabetics of any species. Watch for frequent litterbox trips with small output - infection will irritate the bladder, so the cat thinks it has to go, go, go, but its all gone, gone, gone. If infection or stones, you may see small amounts of blood. Thats another diagnositc clue for the vet.

I wouldn't wait to check with the vet to see if the Clinadrops would deal with this too - there are thousands of bacteria types, and different types need different meds. You don't want him to feel miserable if the Clinadrops won't handle it too.

The vet gave me some black stuff to put in the box. I washed the box very carefully and put the granules in there. What do you think of another urin test?

Another test could be worth it - but I'd ask first - why put the cat through another cystocentesis if what he's on will handle the problem. Re-test after the Clindadrops are finished, to make sure it has been cleared.

And the test should include culture and sensitivity, to find out what, if any, pathogens are present, and what antibiotics can kill them off.

They do make urine test strips for many conditions, not just ketones and glucose. You could get some of those (check the pharmacy, or your vet).

There are some tips in my signature link for secondary urine testing methods.

I just picked up some mor granules from the vet.. So Greylie will just use the litterbox and we don't have to take him to the vet. I finish teh antibiotic., Thr vet first wanted to give him Clavamox. Years ago he had some crystals in the urin /he does not have any now he only thingh are those cells.. and he got really sick on it. This is why I wanted something else. I hope it will work. I will let you know how things went.
