? Recommendations needed for when to test, skip, give insulin at Week 4

I am looking for guidance for Marley, on lantus insulin for three weeks, and then I started to skip insulin as I was in the blue/green blood sugar ranges the past few days. The next dose on March 8 was to be 0.1 units, and I studied and practiced how to safely measure this tiny dose, but never did. I did not realize that Marley needed tighter glucose control for the aim of remission.

Marley is eating DM Purina, Friskies pate. His 2 cans a day are spread out throughout the waking hours, then I leave him a snack when I go to bed as recommended. I have just ordered a timed soft food feeder for when I am at work or not home to maintain consistency. He is doing well, "all 5 P's in place".

Bron: "@AnneforMarley Looking at Marleys SS......to get a strong remission you need to give insulin for as long as you can if the numbers are up a bit higher than normal. Normal is 50-120.
Anything above 120 is above normal and it is best to have the numbers under 100.
There are doses lower than 0.25.
There is 0.1units and a drop of insulin.
If you would like any help please post and we are happy to help you.
I would test at the normal preshot time both am and pm at the moment. If the number is over 100, I would test again a couple of hours later to see if it has come down at all.. otherwise test at the next preshot time."

I’m not experienced enough to give dosing advice but I wanted to comment here to bump your thread up to the top so it can get some attention. Looking at your SS, I would offer the advice of always getting a test at AMPS and PMPS, the times before you give insulin, and maybe a few more tests during the day time cycle and night time cycle. Maybe some others can help you out.

How often are you able to test Anne? Do you work or are you home most of the time?
At the moment Marley is in normal numbers but as I mentioned before we want him to have a strong remission and if he is over 120 I would be inclined to give a drop of insulin to see if you can get him into green numbers. I would only give him the drop if you are going to be around to test him and have higher carb food and honey/Karo if needed and plenty of strips.
I would be interested to hear what @Wendy&Neko thinks.

If you look part way down just above the picture of the cat that shows injection sites of cats, you will see how to drew up small doses such as 0.1 unit and a drop of insulin.

As a point of reference, Zoot is ready for his trial. Take a look at his spreadsheet. Those upper blues you've been skipping are definitely shootable. I agree with Bron's suggestion. It's worth an experiment. A second option is to make sure you are feeding food at the high end of LC, such as 8-9%. I think a number of the Friskies fit that category. Then with the slightly higher carbs you could give those smaller doses.

Thank-you! So my new goal will be to give a drop if Marley is over 6.7 (120) and safe monitoring is in place. I am familiar with the excellent low dose article.
Yes, I have a hypoglycemia kit.
Re your question about work, I am a nurse who works part time, usually 12 hour shifts, and also somewhat busy with volunteer work (Red Cross etc.) My husband Gerry can give insulin also, is at home more, but is not comfortable with the glucose monitoring.
