Recommendations for NYC IM vets?

Hi all - I am hoping some of you NYC based can recommend an acro knowledgeable vet. So far I have been impressed with IM at midtown Blue Pearl who gave me heads up about possible acro for Skitts. Elevated gluecose in urine but no diabetes diagnosed. Visible signs and has been losing weight. Taking him in imminently for full testing and would love to get your recommendations. My cat does not have acro so I don't have direct experience to share. The vets I have seen in the city are still under the impression it is rare. If you can see this guy, he is tops, it's worth a shot, I think you have to be referred to the clinic, maybe the blue Pearl vet can do that for you?

Let me know if Dr. Peterson will help you. He is tops in his field. I took my cat Ginger to Dr. Peterson for her i131 for her hyperthyroid. I asked if he also treats for diabetes and other conditions, and was told he only treats hyperthyroid in cats now.

Dr Peterson definitely limits his practice to hyperthyroidism now. He has a practice in Westchester County and I too tried to get in to see him. @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) who also reached to Dr Peterson's practice was referred to VCA- Katonah Bedford Veterinary Center. That's where I ended up but not for Acro exactly. I went in to have Beenie's heart checked etc. I love the IM vet there, Dr Louise Murray. We don't see eye to eye on diabetes management but that's not what I needed her for but she was super knowledgeable in the areas I needed her to be. Actually taking my civvie to her Monday as he most likely has asthma. I've decided to take my kitties to her for all diagnostics and leave the wellness and dentals to my regular vet.

Stu had been accepted in 2010 by Dr. Peterson for the I-131 treatment at his Westchester County clinic, but when we got there Stu was too sick and weak to have the treatment. Dr. Peterson referred us to Katonah-Bedford so that we could try to get Stu strong enough for the I-131. We were most impressed by the staff and the IM vet we saw there, Dr. Julie Stephens (not sure if she is still at Katonah-Bedford). However, it turned into a sad occasion, because after numerous tests, Stu was found to have cancer (in addition to the Hyper T and CKD that we knew about); his condition and his prognosis was not good and we made the decision to let him go. He crossed peacefully. I will never forget the kindness shown by everyone at Katonah-Bedford. It is truly a remarkable place.
