Recommendations for iron and b12 supplement

Good morning,
I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for iron and b12 supplement for my cat. I finally got his bloodwork from the shelter, and he came in very anemic, and after having him for 3 weeks I realized he has pretty significant peripheral neuropathy in his hind legs. He’s doing great otherwise - his sugars are slowly evening out, his awful cold is gone, and paw wound healed. He hangs out with us all day (mostly hoping to get extra food), and sleeps at the foot of our bed. He’s also best friends with our dog.

A recommendation for a multivitamin that has these 2 ingredients works also. I prefer liquid that I can just put on his food, as it will be better absorbed. And obviously low carb/sugar free.

I like Liqui-Tinic. Unlike some other liquid vitamin/ iron supplements, it does not contain corn syrup so it's safe for diabetics. It was hard to find locally so I ended up getting it on Amazon but there are other places that carry it.

For neuropathy, you'd want methylcobalamin, a different form of B-12.

Zobaline is a diabetic-friendly methylcobalamin supplement (available online). It's easy to crush the pills and mix them in with food (water soluble).

For vitamin B12 this is the one I use with one of my cyvies, I open one and just spread it on her food half a pill in the morning and half at night and either is taste less or she doesn't mind

For the b12 try zobaline which you can buy on amazon. B12 will help with the anemia as well as the neuropathy. You can get b complex with iron. Gotta be careful with iron as you can give too much. Do they know why he is anemic? I think it would be treated differently depending on the cause. For example if it's due to kidney disease it's treated differently than if it's due to FelV. But B12 is always good regardless, but you may need more than B12 depending on the underlying cause.

I think it was anemia of chronic disease due to uncontrolled DM, but in humans we still give iron regardless... I’m pretty sure this cat was malnourished before we rescued him bc he was a stray without front claws. Either way, we just checked his levels yesterday and the vet and they were normal so he won’t be needing iron after all.

As for the zobalin, that’s awesome that it’s especially made for cats, but why is the dose so high? My vet recommended 250 mcg per day. Idk about 3,000 ... I know it’s water soluble, but I personally don’t love the idea of overloading the kidneys of a cat whose kidneys likely took a beating bc his diabetes were uncontrolled for who knows how long (stray).

Veronica, I like your suggestions due to the dose being more reasonable , but I noticed one of the ingredients is rice flour... I wonder if that would affect his sugar?

I think the amount of the rice flour content in every pill is very small to make a difference but I haven't given it to diabetic cat just to civies you could give it to him once and test his BG after an hour or so just to make sure, one thing is that this dose is surely going to help him with his malnourishment and overall health even with his kidneys but for neuropathy for what I know you would need a higher dose plus the folic acid

Vitacost makes a good oral no taste B12. They are 500 mg and in size 3 capsules so you would give 1/2 a day. If anemia you need B Complex as well.
