My boy was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and I'm proud to say he doesn't fight me when it's time for his shot. I just give him a little of his new food, which he loves, and while he's chowing down give him his shot.

On another note, I was wanting to keep an eye on things at home, but what is a reasonably priced meter I can buy?

If you are located in the US, a lot of folks here use the Relion Confirm or Micro available at Walmart. The strips are reasonably priced and readily available. If you are located elsewhere, let us know where and we'll provide you with some other suggestions. :)

If you live in the US, the one most of us use is the Relion Confirm or Micro from WalMart

They take the tiniest sample size and the strips are affordable at $35.88/100

I'll check out both of those when I go out to Walmart next month. Thank you both.

I'd get one as soon as possible, especially since you're already giving insulin.

You'd never give your child insulin without knowing their blood glucose was high enough first...it's the same with our sugarcats!!

We've seen too many tragic stories here from people who didn't test, gave insulin and came home to a nightmare.

I agree don't wait a month. You can have it delivered to you if you can't get there sooner. You will want

1. Relion micro or confirm meter (not Prime) ($17
2. Extra test strips ($36)
3. Box of 28 gauge lancets ($5)
4. Cotton cosmetic rounds
5. Neosporin ointment

As of right now I have no money to get one. I'm doing what the vet told me for now. He is due to go in to have his glucose monitored next week. I will get one, I just don't have the cash right now, but I am keeping a close eye on him.
