recent insulin resistance

Hi all,

I haven't been around much the last couple of months. Odie was doing reasonably well.

These last couple of weeks, I've noticed his BG slowly creeping upwards. The last few days it's consistently higher than normal (see his chart). He's also obviously not feeling very well (lethargic, mopey) and I'm having a hard time convincing him to eat. He'll eat a bit of something one day and then refuse it.

We added Cyclosporine to his medications about a week ago. So far I'm not seeing any improvement. His internal medicine specialist thinks the increased BG is due to insulin resistance caused by whatever is acting up in his gut.

I replaced his vial of Lantus, just in case it had lost its potency, no difference.

He's on:
Pepcid AC, Budesonide, Chlorambucil, Cyclosporine.
Lantus 1 unit 2X day

Anyone have any experience with anything similar or any advice?

An abnormal raise in BG can also signify an infection somewhere. I am not familiar with most of the meds he is on, but are any of those an antibiotic?

My first thought was pancreatitis as Shadoe acted similar when she had her attack in January.
Has your vet tested Odie for pancreatitis to rule it out?
What about dental or infections, all been ruled out?

I can't say much though as neither of mine are on any medications except the insulin.
Both are also insulin resistant but due to acro, not any meds or illness.

Maybe you could try posting over in the Lantus group to see if any others may have some suggestions for you and Odie

No antibiotic.

The Budesonide, Cyclosporine, and Chlorambucil are all immune-suppressant though... so I guess we may need to get some blood work done.

The other alternative that I'm having to consider is switching back to Dexasone even though it caused the diabetes and shoot around the resulting insulin resistance. At least he was stable and feeling reasonably well on Dex.

He has been diagnosed with Pancreatitis about a year ago. He's not puking (much, once a week ago).
He also has IBD.
