Hello!

My name is Chelsea and I adopted my cat Allison about a year ago. She is very loving, outgoing, and friendly. I knew she was FIV+ when I adopted her, but we just received the surprising news that she is also diabetic. We would love any advice on how these two interact!

In August, we will be moving to NYC, any vet recommendations (for a low income household!) would be much appreciated.

Thanks everyone,
Chelsea and Allison

To the extent that diabetes is an autoimmune diseas and FIV cats have impaired immune systems, there might be some relationship.
That said, I haven't come across anything that alters treatment:
- a committed owner
- long acting insulin such as Levemir, ProZinc, Lantus, or PZI,
- low carb over the counter food (ex Friskies pates except Mixed Grill).
- home testing with an inexpensive humane glucometer such as the WalMart Confirm or Confirm Micro.

Good on you for adopting an FIV positive cat :) as per BJM I have not heard of anything that would make the diabetes treatment vary.

For advice on a vet I recommend that you post in the main health forum with that question in your subject line.

Welcome aboard :)
