I thought I saw a link on here somewhere to a spreadsheet for keeping track of BG readings, but now I can't seem to find it.

Anyway, we have been home since about 10 o'clock this morning. He is so happy to be home. We did our first glucose test at noon and it was 195. He is eating really well. I'm supposed to test again at 9:00 pm and give 3.2 units of Prozinc, but I will text the vet the reading before I do that.
Also, How to I add a picture of him a post?

Thanks
Rae Ann

Thank you very much! I don't know what to put on it though. :( I basically knew how to put in the date, but I have no idea what the rest of the stuff is. Help!?

Thanks!

The instructions have you
1) save the template to your pc/phone
2) upload it into your Google docs account (create one if you don't have one)
3) rename it with your cat's name
4) enter data there
5) File, Share, and select anyone with the link can see it
6) Copy the sharing link
7) paste the link in your FDMB profile signature

The entries for the spreadsheet/chart are
AMPS = morning pre-shot test
PMPS = evening pre-shot test
Units = insulin dose given
+5 = any test 5 hours after the shot
+7 = any test 7 hours after the shot
Remarks = any notes about possible impacts on glucos - illness, food change, stressors such as moving, etc.

That is a very big drop for 4 hours after insulin - more than 50%. If he is in the 200s at preshot, please lower the dose.

We like to start low (usually one unit) and raise the dose in small increments as your numbers suggest.

That was while he was still at the vet this morning. I have not given any insulin yet. I am suppose to test him at 9 pm and give insulin, but I'm not doing a set dse until she sees his current numbers. I'm pleased with how he is eating, drinking and behaving since he came home. He likes the friskies food. He's easy to test and loves his treat. I was wrong on the numbers but they aren't any better...He was 548 this morning and was given 3.5 units at the vets office. I fixed my chart..I hope. :)

okay, he was 244 at 9 pm and the vet told me to give him 1.2 units. Done! Okay, so we are trucking along. 2 tests and one shot down! Should I get up and test him at 3:00?

Since he's just starting on insulin, I would say yes to testing him at 3 am if you're able. That way we'll know how he's handling the dose. Good job on starting home testing! :thumbup

I couldn't get a 3 am reading. I poked him 4 times and wasted 2 strips. I finally have IP. He was getting mad and he's pretty laid back. I had some blood non the first strip bit not enough to read :(

Are you sure warming his ear up enough? If you don't get enough blood the first time, you can always get a quick second poke in the same spot.

So glad you reduced the dose last night.
