Sent you a message, Terri. You need to get Molly before 6pm. They won't wait. I send you a msg through FB. I need your phone #.

Thank you Hope, Jennifer, and Terri for coming together to try to save Molly. She has pneumonia and a temp of 94, and the shelter thinks it would be inhumane to let her continue to suffer. It wasn't us, it was them. They shaved her complete body because of her mats, and then left her in a metal cage without any warming device. She started showing signs of URI 3 days ago. Weakened defenses because of untreated diabetes. But now the Wake County Animal Care Center knows DCIN is here, and willing to help, and hopefully this won't happen in that shelter again.

Sorry I can't get rid of the 911. It was on the first post in this link, the one I deleted before I knew Terri responded. Now it is attached to the thread without be attached to any particular post. Perhaps another moderator will know how to get rid of it.

I was able to change it to a candle. Fly free, dear Molly.

Fly free sweet girl, know that you are surrounded by love as you transition to the Bridge.

Thank you Terri, Hope and Venita. We can't save them all, but I am so thankful that we will continue to try.

Molly......may she now be at peace

So sad to know about her condition when first brought in to the shelter and then to know it was too late to save her.........so heartbreaking.

I am also in the Raleigh area and work with a rescue group. Please let me know if I can ever be of assistance in this area.

So sad.

This wasn't my first rescue, but I am not as active as Venita, Jennifer or others. Each time, it reminds me how wonderful these women are to go through this experience over and over again. It's heartbreaking work, and I admire them immensely for having the stamina to allow their hearts to be broken so often.

Thank you Venita, Jennifer and others for your compassion and your persistence.

I read the other Molly thread and this...I don't understand why this had to happen. People were willing to help. Isn't that what shelters are supposed to do? Connect pets to people who are willing to help, even at the last minute? I don't understand.

It's so sad to lose even one - especially when she was so sick when brought in by the owners. How sad. And what a beauty she was.

She's lonely no more - and in no more pain.

I just read about Molly.. with tears rolling down my face right now, i have to agree with MauiGuppy, WHY, could some one please explain why they would do this to such a sweet little angel if she could have been saved.. WHY, WHY WHY..
Fly free sweet baby and land ever so softly.. No more pain, no more being cold, warm sunshine and lots of love and happiness for you!!

I can't speak for the shelter, none of us can, we don't know them. But in my experience doing rescue, my assumption is they were faced with a choice. Spending a lot of money on a cat that they couldn't possibly treat after she got better from this pneumonia because they know nothing about FD.

Even though DCIN promised to pay the bills and to foster, they didn't know of DCIN before this 911, they didn't know if DCIN would have kept the promise to pay the bills and to foster and to take responsibility for the kitty. They also didn't know me, that I was serious and truly would have taken Molly into my home.

If DCIN and I skipped out on them they would have been stuck with paying for offsite treatment that would have been very expensive and if dear Molly did get better from the pneumonia and DCIN had skipped out they would have been in a situation where they still would have had to put her down but this time they would have been out a lot of money. Money that is difficult to come by in this economy.

I don't condone what they did and my heart is broken along with everyone else's that Molly is gone. I'm angry at her original caretaker and angry at the shelter for shaving her and not keeping her warm in the metal cage after that. But, I truly do believe that if this shelter ever gets another FD, they will contact DCIN immediately. I posted that on the other thread, that the CT Humane Society now knows. Our Companions Domestic Animal Sanctuary in Connecticut also knows of DCIN. The more we can get the word out that FD is treatable and that we can help shelters with supplies and education, the more FDs will be helped in the future.

I would encourage people to spread the word about Molly and about DCIN. Tell people about FDMB and the ISGs, let your vets know that they should tell people about FDMB. Knowledge is power and the more everyone hears that FD is treatable and that many times a cat can go into remission, hopefully less and less will need to be rescued from shelters.

Thank you for trying to explain that to me. I still can't wrap my brain around it. What kind of shelter does that to a cat and then doesn't even try to keep them warm for crying out loud. And the caretaker of this beautiful creature, I can't even go there. I understand the cost to the shelter had DCIN and you skipped out on them and the state of the economy these days. What ever happened to faith and trust that people are capable of keeping there word. Could the Shelter not see the great lengths every one was going through to save this little helpless furbaby?
Forgive me for going on, my emotions are a bit high..
Thank you for trying your very best to prevent this senseless act from happening.. I am so glad they Know about DCIN now and I pray that you are right, that the next "Molly" won't have to suffer the same fate..
Venita~~~ I can't express enough to you the admiration for the pain and suffering you go through day in and day out trying to keep things like this from happening. You are a blessing to us all!!

It's okay to be mad, and it's okay to vent. You can even pm me all you want and scream and yell. I've been there too. (((hugs)))

i have to hope that the shelter saw her suffering and couldn't let it continue. perhaps her body temp was extremely low and she was in crisis. otherwise, i can't even think they'd just kill her knowing someone was coming in a few hours.
so sorry.
fly free, little girl.

I understand being angry but I hope you all will remember that Wake County NC was hit by several large storms and a tornado over the past week. There are more than the normal amount of animals lost and hurt right now as well as those who can't stay in the temporary shelters with their owners. By my count, this particular shelter has over 400 dogs and cats today. I'm sure this wasn't the only hard choice they've had to make or the only sick animal that isn't getting premium care right now.

A big part of the solution is to make sure there is an active, low-cost, easy-to-access spay and neuter program in every community. Kittens always get adopted before sick, elderly cats. The shelters have to make decisions that none of us would want to make, especially where there have been recent natural disasters.
