Since Shadow may have ibd, I am trying harder to get her to accept raw.
I've tried before but she didn't take to it . She doesn't mind a little occasionally.

However, she absolutely loves raw shrimp and even cooked crab legs.
I just gave her a serving of raw chicken ( darwin's) and added raw shrimp and she ate half of it.

Does shrimp or crab have the same problems as fish?
I've never seen any of you talk much about shrimp or crab.

I need to decide whether to try this method.

Please share....

I'm guessing that there would be less issues with shrimp because they're so small.

One thing Marje has tried with some success to get Gracie onto raw (she kept barfing it) is to steam the raw food a little. Not sure if that will make it more appealing to Shadow or not since it's not the same issue but maybe worth a try. The theory was to steam it less as time went by.

I have a complete diet raw.... Darwin's....
I am just chopping up shrimp to it to make it more attractive.

i have joined an ibd group and a lymphoma group.... yahoo and facebook.....

i'm skimming thru it but so far I feel like I know more than they do.....
it feels more like social support only....

Hi Rhiannon,
I am new to the forum. My cat Sheba came out of remission 15 months ago following chronic diarrhoea which went on for months. No cause could be found despite numerous tests. Finally I took her off her canned food and the diarrhoea stopped. I decided to try raw and a home prepared diet and researched it extensively on the net. Sheba has thrived on the diet. She has put on weight, her coat is much better and she looks so much better.
The diet I use is raw kangaroo meat, lightly cooked chicken drumstick meat, raw chicken heart and liver and cooked eggs plus supplements. These supplements are not hard to do -the hard bit is working out what and how much of the supplements to give. I cook the chicken meat because Raw makes her sick, but she tolerates the raw heart and liver fine. She also loves a raw lamb chop bone.
Have you tried Shadow with any raw human grade meats- not the predone ones by companies?
Most cats love raw liver ( although they can't eat too much of that because of the vitamin A.) I give it raw but first drop it in boiling water for just a second then take out. I cut it up and freeze in tiny portions. Same with chicken hearts, although I just wash in cold water then freeze. Most cats love those too.
I used to have another cat who had IBD so I understand what you are faced with. I could never find a suitable food for him that relieved the symptoms. I only wish I had thought of raw, but it didn't cross my mind at the time. I have heard many reports of raw helping IBD kitties.
Persevere with it if you can. If you get small amounts of human meat (I only use human grade for Sheba) you can try a variety and won't have wastage and see if you can find one Shadow likes.
