? Raw Diet?

anyone with any experience feeding raw diet?

I was looking at Primal, but thats got the usual vegetables and fruits, which i just dont think should be in cat foods.

The one that caught my eye was Rad Cat.

But i just dont know if it would be a good idea or not.

Thoughts?

I make my homemade raw food.
l use Lisa Pierson recipe.
My kitty Fritz loves rabbit so I order frozen from whole foods 4 pets.
I personally have not bought any of the pre packaged.
Your right cats don't eat fruits and vegetables. The reason I make my own is I know what my cat is eating.
Im sure others will post what raw foods they are feeding. If you'd like more info on how to make raw let me know.

Yes please i am very interested. I was just on catinfo but couldnt find lisa's recipe.
I'd be happy to buy meats from the market if i knew how to prepare. Doesnt taurine need to be added or something? I know very little. Thanks so much!

I just ordered Alnutrin pre packaged supplements that you add to the raw grind up meat & meat bones. They also I recipes for raw diet. I have been following Lisa's recipe for quit some time. It's really easy once you have done it a few times.
Another choice is to order pre packaged frozen 3lbs rabbit and you don't have to grind anything just mix the supplement either with Lisa's recipe or the Alnutrin. It's really important to follow the recipe and not add or eliminate.
I buy my air chilled organic hormone free chicken thighs with and without bone. Then I have a eat grinder it grinds bones from the tights and drumstick without any problems. You then mix with the supplements and I put in little plastic containers with screw on lids and keep frozen. The meat stays fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Since Fritz loves the rabbit and it is less time consuming and has less fat (Fritz is overweight) so for the summer that's what I will be serving him.
Now with the rabbit I take the frozen package partially thaw just enough to mix in the supplement and spoon into the containers.

The amount of fruits/veggies in the raw diets is really very low.....that's why they're so far down on the list of ingredients

China eats Natures Variety Frozen raw chicken medallions .....We tried the Primal and she loved the "sample pack"...when I bought the big bag, she turned her nose up at it

She loved RadCat (and I thought it looked great for her) but for some strange reason we still don't understand, it caused her BG to go UP! We took her off and she came down...tried again and she went up again so we had to admit defeat and give up

Another option if you want to look into it is something fairly new called Food Fur Life....it's a supplement you add to ground raw (or cooked) meat to make it a complete diet

That allows you to control the protein source (and whether you want to feed fully raw or cooked/slightly cooked) without worrying so much about whether it has everything needed.
 
I fed my four Nature's Variety frozen for quite a while. They all really liked it and did extremely well on it! Unfortunately, with feeding four cats, it got to be a little more than my budget could easily afford, so we had to stop having it, and I am sorry because I really do believe it is an excellent food.
 
I'd love to feed homemade raw but when I attempted with the Nature's Variety they refused to eat it, and I tried to give them some blended raw chicken (no vitamins, etc just to see if they'd even show interest in the texture) and they said nope! They were super resistant to it, so switching them over would be a challenge, especially right now when I have so much going on. I also have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and it flared up my germaphobia and anxiety from the raw aspect. I'm vegetarian who eats mostly vegan so I'm not used to handling raw meat, and it pushed me to a uncomfortable place. Pre-made raw like RadCat would probably not create that same anxiety level however with 3 cats, it would be out of my budget.

I think i'm going to get the ball rolling with Feline's Pride. While i'm researching making my own, i could start serving up their prepared food. Does that sound reasonable? Dr lisa mentions it as an option. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed (again!) and think this might be a good way to start.

Thanks Mogs, I know you can relate.

Funny thing is, my germaphobia is very selective. My OCD is mainly compulsion-fueled due to fear and risk, and not usually cleanlieness. Like, I keep a very clean and organized house but one day, I'll just be consumed with the thought of germs and bacteria all over JUST the coffee table and I'll have clean that one table 10+ times but leave everything else alone instead of feeling like I need to disinfect everything. But with the raw, I cleaned my entire kitchen multiple times over the time span of about 3 days after I tried to do raw and it really stressed me out. If my cats actually showed interested I might have been more willing to push through it but I didn't realize it would make me so anxious.

I first started with Felines Pride she would airfreight it to me and Id go to the cargo area of your chosen airline.
