I was just wondering... has anybody here started their kittens out on raw? Do you know if there's anything specific I need to add to a kitten's diet, that isn't in an adult cat's diet? And lastly... is Dr. Lisa's recipe one that is ok for kittens, or no? That's the only one I ever fed my guys before... but I am planning to start this little girl out right when it comes to food.

I'll be bringing a new little girl home tomorrow night... I'll feed her (temporarily) the same food she's been eating (Purina Pro Plan for kittens) but I want to get her onto good food as soon as we're both settled in.

Thanks for any & all help/advice/suggestions!

Dr Lisa's forumula should be OK - its closer to what nature provides. Also, she slightly cooks the outside as a precaution to reduce potential foodborn illness. That's the biggest thing to watch for - really diligent sanitation in the kitchen to reduce the potential for salmonella, etc, which a young kitten might not handle well ... or which you might inadvertently get! You'll want to use bleach (wipes) on surfaces prior to preparation and when cleaning up. And gloves might be prudent too.

I got my Aby from a breeder who feeds only raw food. I continued feeding the raw (Nature's Variety brand) when I got the Aby and 2 years later he's still eating it and doing really well :-D

The breeder didn't give any additional supplements with the NV raw food. I didn't give any either.

Dr. Lisa's recipie should be ok. You may want to grind the bones up more finely to prevent choking. Some kittens get a little too excited over food and will scarf it down  If you're worried, you can email Dr. Lisa to ask. I believe in the past Dr. Lisa has said that in the wild there is no kitten food, cats of all ages just eat one raw diet.

Yes, good idea to keep feeding the food the kitten is used to for awhile and then slowly introduce new food
