Hi - I have SIX pens of insulin. One is being used and the other five are unopened and stored in the fridge, never having seen the light of day. How long can they last? It takes me MONTHS to go through one pen so it will take me years to get through six pens. Is that okay? Are they good for years?

What insulin are you using? You might want to post this question on the insulin forum that you use.

LOL I havent had a diabetic kitty in years but I remember when he went off insulin. I had about 1/4 of the bottle left. That was back in the NPH days. Not many people even use that insulin any more.

The pens will have an expiration date on them. Good unopened until then. Probably a bit longer than that date. Not YEARS past that expiration date, but a few months probably.

If you have more pens of Basaglar (biosimilar to lantus) than you think you would ever use before the expiration date, you could offer them to people over in our Supply Closet forum.

Or give them to a local shelter.
Of find someone in your area that desperately needs the Basaglar and can't afford it.

Thanks. I'll check the expiration date - 7/21. Yikes, there is no way I'll use them all before that. I'll head over to the supply closet as times passes. Thanks again!
