? Ran out of test strips because shipment delayed - Skipped shot

Hello everyone,

We had a rough morning.

I ordered AlphaTrak2 test strips, but their delivery has been delayed because of, you know, everything. So we're down to 1 strip.

Hugo gave us a 109 this morning, and I had to go to work and my boyfriend had to take out other cat, Meowmar, in for surgery. So we skipped the shot as we were too scared that we wouldn't be around or able to test him to see where his numbers were. I have a backup human meter (the Precision Xtra Blood Glucose and Ketone Meter) but I don't see anyone else using it on here and I'm not sure how to convert the numbers to a cat. I'm not sure what to do in these next couple days while we wait for the strips to get here. My boyfriend doesn't want to deal with the conversion, but he's gotten the rest of this week and next week off, so I'm thinking that he's gonna have to suck it up, but I need something to show him.

Anyone have any suggestions? I know the info must be here, and I'm just not finding it.

All the dosing protocols here use the human meter ( the Precision Xtra is one) for dosing.

Are you using SLGS or TR? If you would please add that to your User Id signature, it would be appreciated.
I see from your spreadsheet(SS) that you use the SLGS dosing method. But it's very helpful for us to see that info in the signature also.

Since you skipped the shot this morning, the Lantus "depot" or storage area will be draining.
Not sure what to tell you on the dose.

Wise to skip the shot in those circumstances.

However the human meter you have is perfectly ok and you don’t have to do any conversions of the numbers. They will be a bit lower than the alphatrak meter BGs but most of us use human meters here and both our dosing methods are based on human meter numbers. so it is quite safe to use. I much prefer the human meters. and they are much cheaper to run.

As you will be swapping over to a human meter for a while you will need to document that in your SS and also in your signature. You will need to update both if you swap back to the alphatrak meter.
Just colour in a line in your SS and write human meter across the line.

You might also want to consider getting (yet) another backup human meter for BG only, just because the strips for a blood ketone meter tend to be pricey (as are the AT2 strips!). Even if you don't use it all the time, it's nice to have something on-hand for situations like this, plus it's usually (dunno about right now!) easier to pick up extra strips at short notice for human BG meters.

I will do that. Yeah, I hate the bouncing. It can't be good for him. I'm hoping that we can stop it soon. I don't really know what to do about it. I sent the spreadsheet to my vet but I haven't heard back yet about it. I'm thinking of just doing his 2.5 tonight and testing with the human meter AND out last Alpha strip and comparing the 2.

I wouldn't waste your last Alphatrak meter strip comparing it with a human test. It doesn't mean anything and comparing will do your head in. Better to just change over and if you are concerned/ don't understand the numbers...ask.
