? Raising dose...not seeing an effect?

Here's the previous thread. Summary: I had to go out of town for several days. With the help of everyone here, and with tremendous anxiety, I decided to lower Misha's dose from .75 to .25, since it wasn't clear how things would work out with the petsitter testing him for the first time and measuring small doses.

Obviously I don't have any data from the middle of those cycles, but it seems like the .25 kept him in sort of the same range he was in when I had him on .5 previously. Things went great with the petsitter! She is totally able to test him when she visits!

Following some wise advice, I've held him at .5 for 6 cycles since I got back--the thought was that maybe I actually should've kept him at that dose longer prior to bumping up to the .75, so we should get more data.

I am now hoping to make a decision about his dose: do I stay at the .5? for how long? how do I know when it's time to go up? I realize that these decisions depend on nadir numbers more than pre-shot ones, and I have very few of those--a couple of +2, a couple of +3, and a couple of +8.

I am guessing that folks will recommend doing a curve tomorrow (Saturday) based on the .5 dose. I can do that! I'm just tempted--based on being pretty unhappy with the pre-shot numbers he's had since he went out of remission--to try the increase tomorrow, so that I have both tomorrow and Sunday to see how he does. It's going to be somewhat challenging to do a lot of testing this coming week; I'll have to get up repeatedly in the night, and that's tough with the very draining period I'm in at work right now...

What do you think, wise friends? I'll do lots of testing tomorrow either way (.5 or increase)!

Hope everyone--human and feline--is having a good day! --Vicki

If using TR, you don't need to do a curve, but you do need to get some mid cycles checks. Even a +4 will help. How about something tonight and tomorrow so we can try to see how low this dose is taking him. He might have seen some green action the night of the 22nd or during the day on the 23rd.

OK...update...the numbers he got overnight and has had so far today almost make me wonder if we got the insulin in him at all (or if it's working)--but nothing has changed. My husband did last night's shot, and I did this morning's. The insulin is almost brand new...

What do you think, @Wendy&Neko? I'm leaning toward upping the dose this evening.

I really hate seeing him in these high numbers all day long...I'm upping the dose unless instructed otherwise, and will watch him very carefully tonight and tomorrow...

Good luck with the increase.

Looking at the SS, is there any reason why you didn't take him back to 0.75u when you got back??
Usually when we take a petsitter reduction you would take him back to the last good dose, in this case, as you are following TR that would have been 0.75u.

There was some thought among the more experienced folk that I shouldn't have taken him up to .75 in the first place, since he had gone low once while on .5--so we decided I'd give the .5 its due chance after getting home. I feel pretty confident now that he needs to be on a higher dose--we'll see how this goes over the next few cycles! I sort of want to be aggressive because I wish so much that he could go into remission again, but I know that inadvertently rushing right by the best dose is a risk and that it takes a few cycles to truly know what a dose is doing. (Maybe "I know" is a bit strong...more like "I am pretty sure I have read, and it seemed reasonable, that...") Hopefully we'll see some nice blues and a few greens over the next few days!

Well, now I'm wondering what's going on...his numbers are barely dropping at all. Should I be concerned about the insulin? The vial is quite new and everything looks ok, but maybe something happened with it while the petsitter was here. Or could it be that he has some other kind of health thing going on that's preventing his numbers from dropping--does that happen? What do you all make of it?

I wouldn't worry about the insulin, as long as it's clear, has no floaties.

Only one full cycle so far on this new dose, remember the depot needs to fill and it can take up to 6 cycles to see the full effect of the dosecrease. It usually took 3-4 cycles for me to start to see what a dose could do for George.

It may take him a little while to regain the momentum after the petsitter reduction.
