Hi all, jsut an update on our progress---
We completed our first mini glucose scan over the weekend with good results. When Quincy was first diagnosed his BG was 35. This weekend, after only one week on insulin, he has down to 14 at 0 hour with his +6 hour reading at 2.4 (yes a bit too low, but he ate for me right away with no further complicatons) and his +8 hour at 5.3. We withheld his insulin for last night and today until I talked witht he vet as Quincy did not need 3 IU of Canin insulin. The vet had given me a scale of numbers to be aware of during the glucose scan to help determine what I should be doing. The vet dropped his insulin to 1 IU twice a day as of this evening. She feels we are heading for a remission in the next few weeks and is very happy with the way he is responding to treatment and his new food.
I am so thankful for the help I have received on this forum and the knowledge that I have gained. I feel comfortable managing his diabetes with the help of our vet who is just terrific. We are currently feeding a combination of Wellness-grain free, EVO and the last some yucky Purina DM. I have also found freeze dried chicken breast and some treats made by EVO for diabetic kitties for him so he does not mind getting his shot. I like to get his food and medicine ready and then call him to feed. While he is eating he gets his shot....does not know what hit him
