Hi everyone!

Hard to believe it's been a month since Quincy's OTJ party, and 6 weeks since his last drop of insulin. It's been nice getting a bit of my life back, and even nicer to see Quincy holding his own. I test him about 2 weeks ago, on 4/1, and he was at 88 around 5:30pm. I tested him this evening at 5:15pm and he was at 97. Three hours later (after dinner), he had dropped to 81. So his numbers seem similar to what he gave me during his trial.

I had thought he might be a little higher because Quincy seemed to have some sort of GI flare up this week. He had been throwing up about once a week, and it was usually either liquid or a small amount of very digested food. His BMs were regular little tootsie rolls too, which I was thinking might have been due to his weekly B-12 shots (switching to bi-weekly now). But then of course, Tuesday he had loose stools and then diarrhea that morning, plus threw up his breakfast. That hadn't happened in a long time. He was also a little finicky about eating, which is highly unusual. We cut back his food and limited his diet to boiled chicken. He threw up again on Friday, but it was his "standard" 5am clear liquid pukey, not a big food mess. And his BMs seem back to normal. I was afraid to test him but knew I should just to be aware. My compromise was an evening test (when he's usually lower). I'll probably test him again in 2 weeks, maybe in the morning instead.

Overall, Quincy seems pretty happy and content, even though he has been deprived of cupcakes since stealing one on the 3rd day of his OTJ trial. He has his playful moments, loves being brushed, and has enjoyed a few strolls (on leash) in the yard and on the roof. Katie dog seems a little less annoying to him, I think. It's funny though that nothing seems to make Katie happier than seeing Quincy. He ran out of his litter box and across the house Fri morning, and when she saw that, she started wagging her tail very happily. Cracks me up. And whenever we call Quincy, that's a sure fire way to get the dog's attention.

Quincy just jumped on my lap, so I will take that as my cue to hit "submit!" Now that I don't have to test him so much, I've been trying to get more sleep. I do still use the timer feeder with him (he's on mini-meals still), and that 1am snack is a lifesaver!

p.s. Some of you may remember that a few days after Quincy's OTJ party, I planned to run the LA Marathon. Well, I did it! It was my first marathon, and while it took me a little longer than I had hoped, I finished in a still respectable 4:14.

Hi! Great report. Very funny that the dog loves him.

I'm glad Quincy got through his IBD episode. Boomer has IBD too and he takes daily budesonide but has been puking a lot lately. I give b-12 once a month - maybe he needs more. What do you use the b-12 for? Boomer got it originally more often to help him absorb nutrients. He can eat and eat and not gain weight. All this puking lately has got him looking a little lean. He's on trial now - a few more days to go - and I really don't want to go to the vet. Do you buy your B-12 from somewhere other than the vet?

I miss seeing the picture of him climbing the ladder - it's SO cute.

I'm never sure if it's IBD or lymphoma-related. As long as a flare up passes after a day or two, I can breath again. So we're starting a new puke-free streak now! Hope it's longer than week...

I started Quincy on B-12 because in Feb we tested him for cobalamin/folate, and found that he had a slight deficiency. I obtained the B-12 from my vet (a huge vial for ~$20), and next time I take him in to the vet's, he's going to get a B complex shot so he can get some folate too. The vet cautioned that I likely wouldn't see a big difference, but I think it was good to correct the deficiency and I do think it has helped him, esp. with BMs. His main symptom of trouble has always been vomiting, though. That's what led me down the road just over 2 years ago to his lymphoma/IBD diagnosis.

Sounds like Quincy is doing just peachy these days Laura. I'm very happy to see that! Not to happy hearing about the pukies tho and I hope that ceases soon.

Congrats on running the marathon...AND finishing it is just awesome!

So nice to see you and Quincy again and to read your good report. Nice going Quincy! Cute about the dog and Quincy.
Congratulations on your marathon! Good job!! :thumbup

Great Quincy report. cat_pet_icon
Congratulations on the marathon. The Boston marathon is today......you should come run that one some time. :-D

I saw that - what a rough Monday! There's no way I could qualify for that. I think for my age I'd have to finish a marathon in 3:45 - crazy! And I'm not so sure how many more marathons I have in me... I started training for this one in part to deal with my grief over losing my cat Cleo last October and as an outlet for the stress that Quincy's maladies triggered. Maybe will do one more sometime, hopefully motivated by better reasons! :-D

Having no idea about marathon times I asked my buddy who runs them.. he said 4:14 is REALLY good for a first time marathon.. he said it's probably above average even for the mens times.. he seems to think it's quite a bit more than "respectable".. so congratulations! :).

I'm off from work today because of the marathon - it's on an actual Boston holiday every year called Patriot's Day. My brother has done it twice but he never really qualified. There's a way to run it without qualifying for it. He was able to get in because John Hancock sponsors it and he worked for a division of Hancock.

I didn't realize that Boston is harder than other marathons. I thought a marathon was a marathon.
