Quick food and treat question

This may sound ridiculous, but Twink has never liked canned food, so I don't actually know how much to give her! We tried the Fancy Feast low carb/no gluten and she actually ate some. I'm hoping she gets used to it. She's 9 pounds. How much is normal for a cat her size a day?

I read the treat chart, can you find some of those at any usual pet store?

I feed my 7 pound civie 2 cans of Fancy Feast a day. With new diabetics, their body is not processing the food well so they can be really hungry until they get regulated. We encourage you to feed them enough so they are not obviously hungry and to spread it out in several small meals over the day and night to help support the pancreas.

Oliver was a fan of Bonito flakes which we found at PetSmart. You can also google a couple kinds and buy them on line.

I would say 2-3 can a day. I am looking at a can of FF Ocean Whitefish and Tuna Feast and the can say 1 cone per day per 3 lbs of kitty weight.

If you have an Asian market anywhere near you, you'll be able to find them there for about 1/3 the price of Petsmart. They make a good addition to your own soups, if you're into that sort of thing.

Some low carb treats can be found at the typical chain pet store. Others are found at non-chain pet stores. And you can buy treats at many places online, PetFoodDirect.com and OnlyNaturalPet.com two good sites.

The treat list isn't a complete listing of all low carb treats. I know that there are some brands of treats that members here feed but aren't on the list.

Man my cat is difficult! She'll lick a bit of the Fancy Feast low carb/gluten free, but then paws at it. She sort of eats the Hills M/D dry, then paws at it. I bought her Beefeaters frozen chicken and she won't even try it. Really going to have to find something I can treat her with. She really does love cheese, I think I read that you could give them a tiny amount as a treat, is that right? Hills is 14% and I know dry isn't as good at wet, but she's sort of eating it, which at the moment I think is more important. Her numbers have been around 215.

You might try shredding up some cheese and mixing it in with the wet food so she has to hunt for it. FortiFlora works for lots of kitties also. It is the flavoring the dry food uses. You can get it from your vet or on line.

Oh that's a really good idea! She really does love cheese, I'll try that tonight! Even though wet food is stinky as heck, I'd rather her get used to eating that. Thanks!!
