I'm still working on figuring out how to work with the spreadsheet and link it to my signature but will provide information here to start

China weighs 8.5lbs and is underweight (should be about 10.5) She's always been a grazer, and is in a multi-cat household. Tried diet change from dry to canned after Dx. At first, BG dropped, but after about a week, went back up so started Lantus (other 2 weigh 20lbs and 22lbs are are not overweight)

6/5.. AMPS 398 / .75u ....PMPS 282 /.75u
6/6...AMPS 282 / .75u.....PMPS 570 / .75u (had a hard time getting BG at PM so think stress elevated this one)
6/7...AMPS 438 / .75u

1. She seems to be looking for food every time I move, but doesn't eat much at each sitting, so have been feeding up to 6 small meals/day. I also have 2 other cats in the house (who are more than happy to eat anything she leaves). I've been leaving the dry down that they've always eaten, as well as adding a big lump of wet twice/day for the other 2, but of course China can get it if she wants it (although she is loving the much yummier wet) Is this OK? If not, what options do I have?

2. At what point should I consider increasing the Lantus? :?

Thanks again for your help and advice!!

What dry food is down for China to have access to? Probably keeping her numbers high.

Options on the feeding.
1. Feed all cats at the same time of day. Wet and Dry. Remove all the dry food after 15-20 minutes so China can not get to it.
2. Find a lower carb dry food to feed to all of the cats. Something that will not spike China's BG's.
3. Transition every one to the low carb wet food China is eating.

Has China only been on the Lantus for 3 days?

Heres my take

i think stress likely didnt play in here. If anything I noticed the AMPS is a little lower than the other days.. I suspect she may even have dropped into lowish numbers and bounced up afterward. Bouncing happens when the BG drops to levels the cat isnt used to , then a counterregulatory effect kicks out sugar to raise BG again. Its important to know how low she dropped. It might have been as simple as a normal level but her body isnt used to being normal BG.. or she could have dropped too low. So next time you see a preshot under 300 I would get a test 4-7 hours afterward to see how low she is going. If she drops too low, we change the dose.

Or it could be she got into the dry!

It's call Life's Abundance. It's only available online and I've been getting 32lbs shipped every 102 days for years. I'm on the last 16lb bag. At over $40, I'd like to finish it off. I asked and they said it's 28% carb...too high I understand but I'm also on a very limited budget and although I'm going to try my very best, feeding the other 2 (at 20 and 22lbs) only wet might cost more than I can afford. I will try feeding at set times and taking the dry up after 20 minutes. Not sure how they'll adjust after a lifetime of grazing but we'll give it a try!!

Yes....First vet was only interested in selling me Science Diet Dry M/D which I knew wasn't good, and thought if she could be diet controlled in the "300's", would be fine...and "Insulin is a hassle" (Him, not me) I changed her to Friskies wet lower carb varieties and did BG readings until I found a vet that was willing to work with us and then had to get prescription called in, ect.

You're the expert so I'll take your word for it, but she really was quite upset with me by the time I got it done

Do you want to set up a spreadsheet? That would help track everything and see how the dose is working.

I'm working on that. I think I finally figured out how to use Excel and am using the spreadsheet, but not sure how to link it to my signature. Have been working with another member (Okohme) to get this far. I'm saving it to my computer each time I make a change/addition...trying to figure out where the URL is or how to share it

(doing more reading on the link you provided to see if I can figure it out...thank you)

I don't know if it's right, but added "something" to my signature....LOL (Let me know if it worked!)

As for feeding, since she is such a small cat (compared to my other behemoths anyway) and doesn't eat much at one sitting, should I feed her small meals but more often? If so, how often?
