Questions About Tiki Cat Food

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone can provide me some advice on the Tiki brand of cat foods. I see on their website they will mention "No carbs" on some of the foods, but then I found one that mentions pumpkin, but also says no carbs. Is pumpkin okay for diabetic cats?

Also they have the "After Dark" line of foods, and for example the chicken & duck one lists these ingredients:
Chicken, chicken broth, chicken liver, chicken gizzard, chicken heart, duck, tricalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, choline chloride, magnesium sulfate, salt, taurine, ferrous sulfate, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin E supplement, tuna oil, niacin (vitamin B3), zinc oxide, vitamin A supplement, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement, copper amino acid chelate, manganous oxide, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement (vitamin B2), sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), folic acid, potassium iodide, vitamin D3 supplement

I don't see anything in those ingredients that would indicate carbs, it just looks like animal meats and vitamins and supplements.

These foods are fairly expensive and so I'm just trying to be sure about which Tiki foods are good for diabetic cats before I spend the money. I know the cat food database lists some tiki cat foods but it seems like they have more options now so I'm just wondering.

Have you looked into the Weruva Pates?
They are low carb and low phosphorus which is good for kitties
You can probably pick up some of these in Pet smart ,or Petco so you can try them out to see if your kitty likes them

With weruva foods
You want the metabolizable energy profile percentage of carbs to be less than 10%, and the phosphorus which Weruva lists in Minerals to be less than 250 mg per 100 cals. So you have to look at two different places in the Weruva charts.

About the pumpkin, I googled this
I know when members give pumpkin to their kitties for constipation they are told it has to be 100% pure pumpkin

So I don't know if it's pure pumpkin in the Tiki cat foods


Plain 100% pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) is safe for cats and can even be useful as a treatment for gastrointestinal issues. It contains several healthy ingredients, such as potassium; phosphorous; calcium; vitamins A, C, and K; and lots of fiber. Keep in mind, however, that cats are obligate carnivores.

Tiki would be fine. The reason we say pure pumpkin is two fold. The canned pie filling has sugar in it. I don’t know if there’s much pumpkin in the Toki but worth a try. You could also try 1/8 teaspoon miralax dissolved in water. I mixed it in my cats’ food.
 
The absence of explicit carb sources in the listed ingredients suggests a low-carb content, but it's always wise to consult with your vet or reach out to the Tiki brand directly for more detailed nutritional information.

Took cat is very open with their nutrition facts on their website. Ive fed tiki to some of my cats. Hit or miss which flavored they liked, but it’s a good food and most flavors are low carb good for cats. So I’d say go on the website and look at the dry matter carb content and pick a few under 10 percent carb. (Under 8 is better).
