My "new" extra-sweet kitty Frankie will be arriving on Thursday, and the only treatment he's had for his diabetes is glipizide, though he was diagnosed over a year ago. At the vet about a month ago, his BG was around 400 (hopefully that's partially vet-stress.) He's also not on a proper diet, as he's primarily free-feeding dry food all day & only gets a little wet food AM/PM with his glipizide (which is obviously going to be one of the 1st things I transition.) I know he had a vet visit more recently, since he needed checked out before I could adopt him. I asked his current owner if the vet had mentioned a specific insulin for him & she said Lantus. I already have 1/2-3/4 bottle of ProZinc, since that's what Stinky was on...since Frankie has never been on insulin, does it matter which one he starts on? Obviously I'm more familiar w/how Prozinc works, but I want to do what is best for Frankie. I can always take him to my vet, if that would be the best course of action to get him started. His current owner has been really fantastic about answering any questions I have & it's breaking her heart to have to give him up, but she's in a tough situation & wants to do what's best for him.
