Questions about feeding guidlines

I went to the grocery store to get some different canned foods and got online here to figure out appropriate guidelines.
I found Binky's canned food tables and some other useful information, and I'm trying to put it all together.
I found this page here http://felinediabetes.com/TipsforTransitioningPDF12-18-09.pdf that says
If your cat weighs 18 pounds but really should weigh 12 pounds, please make sure that he is consuming
at least ~180 calories per day. (12 pounds lean body mass X 15 calories/pound/day = ~180
calories/day)
And also
For diabetic patients, it is very important to decrease their carbohydrate consumption (to less than 7-10%
of their daily caloric intake)
I should have printed out Binky's page and taken it with me. When I looked up my purchases, I found the foods I bought to be pretty high in carbs. (I think). I'm wondering if I bought the wrong stuff, but if not, how do I figure out how many carbs she is getting and how do I figure out how much to feed her to make sure she's in that 180 calories per day? She's 17 pounds so that's why I am using this figure for her.
Hope that makes sense?.........

Edit to add: I forgot to list what I bought!!!
Some Whiskas Purrfectly Fish (3 flavors-salmon, snapper,shrimp)
Whiskas Purrfectly Chicken (3 flavors-chicken, chicken and beef, chicken and duck)
Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys Tuscany Collection (3 flavors-white meat chicken, yellowfin tuna, tender turkey--all end in "tuscany")
Fancy Feast Sliced (3 flavors-turkey, beef, chicken hearts and liver--all end in "feast in gravy")

The only ones I know about are Fancy Feast. Any ones with gravy are a no-no. They tend to be higher carb (15-17%) You want to stick with the pate types (and then add warm water to make it gravy like) The "feast" ones tend to be the lowest carb. The Elegant medleys are in the upper range too - 9 to 12% carbs. We'd like to see a new diabetic 8-11%, so it's close but you can get lower carb.

The only way I was able to do this at all was to print off the pages and take them to the store with me. The names do change (going from morsels in gravy to sliced with gravy, etc.) but in general, stay away from gravy.

No worries - they will take back cat food. Just tell them your cat won't eat that flavor and you want to exchange it for other flavors.

The Fancy Feast is a bit tricky ...

Chicken Feast is low carb but Chicken Feast in Gravy is not - has more carbs.

I'd concentrate on the change to low carb first and then worry about calories later. Changing to the low carb flavors will help a lot.

Dear Angela, and, of course, you too, sweet Callie Mae,

I'm totally with Phoebe on this one. Chances are that whatever Callie Mae has been eating versus what she will be, it probably will involve less calories...

Basically, you don't want anything with gravy. In terms of Fancy Feast, you can do some Chunky (chicken, turkey, chopped grill) and flaked (tuna or trout); but, Sue's right, gravy is a no no...

Do print out Janet and Binky's Famous Food Charts, Angela. Eventually, you'll have them pretty much memorized. But, I can tell you that I've had many an engaging and educational conversation with people in the cat food aisle at my local grocery store as a result of clutching my copy... It generally starts off with something like: What's that list you're holding? And, then it moves on from there... Am proud to say many people don't put bags of dry food in their carts -- at least while I'm in the aisle... Hey, it's a start...

Love and big hungry (low carb!) hugs,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, who sent me a sugar cat who actually eats cat food!

No one seems to have a comment on the Whiskas Purrfectly foods.
Anyone know about them or know how I can find out by reading the label?
I didn't find it listed on either of Binky's lists' (old and new).
Thanks.

I would definitely not feed the Whiskas Purrfectly chicken, it has corn starch. I don't know about the Salmon...it has wheat gluten so it's probably not ok to feed. The Shrimp and Snapper have soybean oil so I would avoid them as well.

When you're reading labels you're looking for foods that don't have corn, wheat, rice, sugar, soy, or any grains.
