So, Steven has been in the high 200's, mid 300's, occasional 400s when we started insulin 2 weeks ago. Did his curve and I think the highest was 448.

But.

His numbers have just skyrocketed.

Now I am "happy" when he's in the low 400's in the am. He had one am at 615 (NEVER been anything like that). His insulin has been doubled (.5u 2x a day) but last night got a HI reading before his evening dose. At +4 he was at 570 and at +6 at 420.

Seeing vet Tuesday for EKG, ultrasound and check up w internal med which is managing his insulin and I'm thinking they will increase. They are informed of the numbers and message I get is carry on (until I see them) but

WHY WOULD NUMBERS INCREASE WITH DOUBLE THE INSULIN AND NO DIET CHANGE?

Nothing has changed. Same diet, same schedule. he has had several "pancreatic flares" (vet calls them) over the past few weeks, gets his daily fluids, buprenex, Mirtaz and cerenia, although at the moment holding Mirtaz as he's eating.

I hate to point this out but most of us are crippled without seeing a spreadsheet. I know I won't give any advice regarding dose without being able to see what's actually going on over a period of a couple of weeks. Is there any way you can set up a spreadsheet and pull data from your meter's memory so we can provide an informed response? The last thing anyone wants to do is give feedback that is based on insufficient information and could harm your cat.

The spreadsheet info is in the helping us to help you link. We are very numbers driven. The spreadsheet is a record of your cat's progress.

when you say his dose was doubled to .5 units, that means he started on .25 units? What’s his weight? It seems like a very low dose to start. Most cats start at .5 or 1 units. Once we can see his ss we can better guide you :)

Hi and thank you!
I am also a data girl so really appreciate that. Been testing preshot, +2, 4, 6 daily , sometimes 12. On this phone, which is all I have, I don't think I can do a SS, tho. I'm hoping to upgrade but not gonna happen immediately.

He started at .5 1x a day, and is now at .5 2x a day.

I'm just interested in general in why his numbers were lower, then we start insulin and he's been in the 600s! The vet adds an evening dose and his numbers are higher. My late husband was diabetic and his numbers could dance a little, but Stevens have increased to where I see 301 (his +4 today) and I'm happy.

Just frustrated!

Insulin once a day doesn’t work for the majority of cats. Lantus stops working after 12 hours and then you’re draining from the depot, since it’s a depot insulin, or you’re not giving the depot a chance to build up.

we can’t tell because we can’t see the pattern unless we see all the data not just one days worth. The ss is a Google sheet so you should be able to download the app yo your phone and edit it there. I open google sheets on my phone and work on them all the time since I’m in events and when I’m at an event, the phone is the quickest way. Do you need help setting it up? I can tag @Bandit's Mom who is a pro and can do it for you.

He could be bouncing from lower numbers at night.
