I don't know if this is where I can post this question. But thought I would. I skipped Pudders shot this morning because he was throwing up and not really interested in food. I didn't want him to have a low while I was gone. This morning he was 240. At 3:30 he was 380 I think. And just now 288. I am going to give him his shot since I didn't this morning. But I am just wondering if this is normal to be running like this. I am so new to all this just want to make sure he is ok.

When the insulin wears off, a diabetic's glucose will rise. His did. Get back on the insulin and continue to monitor the eating behavior.

Are you urine testing for ketones? When the cat is unregulated, it is important to check for them as they may signal diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). They are a by-product of fat breakdown which is elevated when not enough insulin is present. See my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools for tips on how to do it. Sometimes it is possible to smell ketones on a cat's breath - it smells like nail polish remover. If you ever smell that, get to a vet hospital asap.
 
Depending on when he ate in relationship to when you tested, yep that is pretty normal since food will raise BGs...plus BGs aren't a steady set thing even in nondiabetics, they go up and down throughout the day. Then you get to factor in the meter variance of +/-20% that all meters are allowed by law so actually that 380 and 288 are fairly close to the same number...confusing I know.

I would be more worried about him throwing up and not being interested in food if it continues then he will probably need to see the vet. If it is just a one time thing and he is acting fine otherwise then he is mostly likely okay. But it is something to keep an eye on.

His ketones were checked Sunday when he was in the ER vet. And they were fine. Everything came back normal. DCIN is sending me strips with his insulin next week. He seems to be doing ok now. I did ask the vet if something could be wrong because he doesn't ask for his food at night like he does in the morning. I usually have to wake him up at night to eat. She said not to worry about it. But I am. Is that normal? I am just really questioning if he is diabetic because he is so young. But not sure. Because I don't know what it looks like in animals. Just humans. Maybe I am just worrying to much.

As he gets more regulated his appetite should decrease. The insulin let's him use the food he eats.
 
Even when you get into a routine, you'll worry. Thats normal.

My kitten was diagnosed at 6 months. He's assumed to be Type 1 since there are no other underlying health problems. Did Pudders need steroids? How are his teeth? These are both "underlying conditions" that can cause diabetes in younger cats.
 
He seems to be doing better today. When I tested him this morning it said he was 71. I thought that can't be. So I tested him again and he was in the 200's. So I felt better. He was on steroids as needed for asthma to we switched to his new vet. But he was diagnosed diabetic all ready. When he was younger and when we still lived with my parents he seemed to have needed the steroids more. He has been on a new pill since the new vet. But has only had to take it twice. And the vet said it is diabetic friendly. The fact that he gets a lot of bladder infections tells me he is diabetic. I guess there is just a part of me that still wonders. I don't have a printer at home and won't have access to one to Monday. I didn't think of printing off sheets while I was at school Wednesday. So for now I am writing them in a book. One thing that I have noticed since mixing his dry food with wet he is more alert and doesn't sleep as much. I am going to do that for about a month per the vet orders. I was really nervous about that because he hasn't liked wet food in the past. But maybe now he knows it will help him.

Him and I both lived with my parents for like the first 2.5 to 3 years of his life. I wish I would of kept the bottle that he was on he just finished the last pill yesterday. It was something with a Th. The doctor said she didn't want to put him on it again. So if he has another flare up he will have to get an inhaler. Which I am praying doesn't happen because I can not afford that. He seems to be like me and have a hard time in the spring and than in the fall to the first hard freeze. Just praying this year isn't as bad as last year.
