Question

Sherry and Blackie

Member Since 2019
Moving from new health forum to here. Testing 3 days now. Vet had us on Lantus slowly increased to 4units. Just tested and cat is at 517 +11 am shot. Will test at preshot PM. Had done 2 units last night due to low numbers and 2 this AM. Thoughts on where to go this evening. Thanks!

Welcome. I think you should stick with 2 units and see how low that dose takes Blackie. Lantus dosing is based on the nadir (lowest number in the cycle) and not the pre-shot numbers. He looks like he is bouncing and you want to give him a chance to come back down and see what he can do on this dose. It's best to stick to a dose if you are able to instead of jumping back and forth to see what the dose is really doing.

Hi again Sherry! Glad to see you made it to the Lantus forum. Carla has given you great advice. HERES the link to your Health thread. Is Blackie totally off the dry food now?

Sherry, here's how to link the previous day's thread to a new one:
1. Click on Post New Thread;
2. Call up your previous condo (which is today's one) and go to the very top line of your browser's screen, where you will see the URL for the condo (www. felinediabetes.com etc. etc). Highlight this URL (right click on a PC; control click on a Mac). Click the "Edit" button and click "copy" (on some browsers, "copy" will automatically appear, so you don't have to click the Edit button). Or Crtl-C on computer.
3. In your today's condo write at the top of your post something like "Previous Condo", or "Yesterday". Highlight the word(s) you just wrote.
4. Go to the function bar at the top of the Forum and click on the symbol that looks like a chain link (7th symbol from the left). A dropdown box will appear asking for the URL. Go back up to "Edit" on your browser and click "paste" or on the keyboard Ctrl-
V.
The URL will appear in the box.
5. Click on "insert".

Welcome to the LB&L forum!

Tomorrow when you start your new condo please set it up like this:

10/2 Blackie AMPS ### (if you have another question you can post it there as well)...and then include as the first line the link to today's condo per the instructions from Idjit's mom and AmandaE.... there's a lot of help and support in this forum! Best of luck getting Blackie to come on down from those high numbers :)

I just tested at +2 and he's 514. I'm kinda freaking out. Is there anything I should be doing? I'm afraid it's making him feel so bad.

It takes a few days for the depot to build, and he may be bouncing from the lower numbers. You’ve recently changed to Lantus and stopped the dry. Have you read the yellow stickies at the top of the Lantus page that explains the 2 dosing methods? If not, check it out and choose which method you’d like to use. If you’re not sure ask questions here and we can help you decide. Here’s the link http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...-low-go-slow-slgs-tight-regulation-tr.210110/

Hi Sherry... hang in there! Y.o.u are doing a good job :)
Like Carla (@carfurby) said when they go from a high bounce (they will come down :)), all you can do is wait for them to come down.
>The Lantus depot will fill and sort all out into... sense! :bighug:

I'm not sure which method to use especially after coming after 2 months of my vet increasing from 2,3,4. With just random testing. The SLGS seems to resonate with me. How would I implement that though since I've already started.

Be sure to add SLGS to your signature so anyone advising you will know. It’s ok that you’re starting at 2u since you had been at 4u with the dry food. You’ll simply hold the 2u dose for a week unless Blackie dips below 90 and earns a reduction. Dose changes are made in increments of .25u at a time. Post here daily and others will help you with dosing along the way.
